Specifically, in Mang But commune, Quang Ngai province, at 2:19:07 a.m. on October 15, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake occurred at the coordinates 14.837 degrees North latitude, 108.200 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1 km. About 1 hour later, at 3:19:55 a.m., in this commune, a magnitude 2.9 earthquake occurred at the coordinates 14.833 degrees North latitude, 108.235 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1 km. Then, at 5:49:33 a.m., in Mang But commune, another magnitude 3.1 earthquake occurred at the coordinates 14.844 degrees North latitude, 108.207 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1 km. The fourth earthquake occurred at 5:54:09, magnitude 3.1; at coordinates 14.816 degrees North latitude, 108.277 degrees East longitude, focal depth of about 8.1 km.

According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center (Institute of Earth Sciences ), these are triggered earthquakes. The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center continues to monitor these earthquakes. In the previous days, many earthquakes also occurred in this area; of which, on October 6, an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred, with a natural disaster risk level 1.

The Director of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center said that earthquakes often occur in series. Induced earthquakes also occur in cycles, sometimes earthquakes occur frequently, sometimes less frequently. Before and after an earthquake of magnitude over 4, there are often foreshocks and aftershocks, that is, small earthquakes. The larger the earthquake, the more foreshocks and aftershocks.

Since 2021, earthquakes have been recorded frequently in Quang Ngai (formerly Kon Tum province), with the largest earthquakes causing widespread tremors. The largest was the earthquake on the afternoon of July 28, 2024, with a magnitude of 5.0. According to preliminary studies, earthquakes are forecast to continue in the coming time in this area, but the magnitude is unlikely to be greater than 5.5.
