Promoting the advantages of OCOP products in the seafood industry

With the characteristic of being the province with the largest natural area in the country, Lam Dong has the advantage of diverse agricultural, forestry and fishery products. In particular, OCOP products in the fishery industry have been and are the potential and competitive advantage of the locality.

According to the provincial Department of Rural Development, currently, the province's OCOP products (One Commune One Product program) are available at many supermarkets, specialty stores, and fairs inside and outside the province. Particularly in the field of aquaculture, Lam Dong, with the advantage of 192 km of coastline, the province's annual seafood output reaches an average of over 230,000 tons, creating an important supply source and partially meeting the raw material needs for export processing activities of enterprises.

Taking advantage of this advantage, currently some localities and enterprises in the Southeast region of the province have been developing products such as: fish sauce, fermented fish sauce, dried and frozen seafood, sun-dried sturgeon, sun-dried squid, garlic butter squid, tamarind-braised squid, garlic-fried croaker, ready-to-eat grilled goby, anchovy with lemon sauce, Thai sauce, tamarind-braised beef, kimchi-crispy anchovy... Besides, there are many potential seafood products that can be included in the OCOP program such as: dried fish, fish cakes, snails, shrimp, crabs, sea cucumbers of all kinds...

The provincial agricultural sector said that in recent times, the support activities of the OCOP program have contributed to improving the quality, brand and competitiveness of OCOP products. Thereby, expanding the consumption market, increasing the average income of the subject from 15 - 20% / year and creating more jobs for many rural workers. OCOP products are gradually affirming their value and quality in the market, gaining the trust of consumers. Thereby, there are positive and clear impacts on the agricultural and rural economic sector.

Lam Dong province will focus on developing OCOP products with potential, local competitive advantages, and unique and different characteristics. Along with that, encourage enterprises and cooperatives to invest in research, technological innovation, improve product quality, and deep processing of OCOP products. Focus on improving product quality, focusing on supporting OCOP entities to apply quality standards, regulations, and advanced production processes.

The provincial agricultural sector also aims to develop OCOP products according to the value chain, in accordance with the advantages and conditions of the locality. Building a widespread OCOP product distribution network, accessing modern consumption channels, bringing OCOP products to e-commerce platforms. Gradually establishing a channel to introduce and sell separate and unique OCOP products associated with gift products, presents, local specialties through tourist routes...

The Provincial Department of Rural Development has set out the orientation for developing OCOP products in general and the fisheries sector in particular. In particular, it proposes to survey and collect data to synthesize and evaluate the potential, factors of products with economic value, and the situation of OCOP products in the field of processed fisheries. From there, support and develop the value chain of key fisheries products associated with processing and export, through doing well the state management stages. Support the application of science and technology, digital transformation in the production, management and sales of OCOP products specializing in fisheries in the program and plan to restructure the fisheries sector of Lam Dong province in the period 2026 - 2030, with a vision to 2035.
