Sending his welcome to the delegates attending the Conference, Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Minh said that after the success of the 7th ASEAN+Japan Senior Sports Officials Meeting held in October 2024 in Vinh Phuc , Vietnam will continue to host the 8th ASEAN+Japan Senior Sports Officials Meeting.
Overview of the 8th SOMS + Japan Conference
The meeting continues to play an important role in promoting ASEAN-Japan cooperation in sports towards 2030. It is also an occasion to deepen the ASEAN-Japan comprehensive strategic partnership, and to acknowledge relevant decisions from other ASEAN meetings since the 7th SOMS+Japan.
Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Minh said that since 2023, ASEAN - Japan has actively implemented many cooperation programs and achieved many successes. Some of these projects will end in 2026 and are expected to continue to bring about the desired results, creating a premise for cooperation projects in all areas of sports in the coming time.
"I hope that the 8th ASEAN + Japan Senior Sports Officials Meeting will be an event for delegates to review the cooperation results of the past year and orientate close cooperation in the coming time," Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Minh emphasized.
Japan Sports Agency Director HIGUCHI Keiko
In recent years, ASEAN - Japan cooperation programs have been implemented regularly and effectively, focusing on sports programs for people with disabilities, for women and girls, or on physical education , as well as sports development policies and building capacity for professional sports coaches... All activities are aimed at the goal of sustainable development in the region and continent.
Speaking at the Conference, Director of the Japan Sports Agency HIGUCHI Keiko said that this Conference will focus on key areas such as: Developing sports teachers and coaches, increasing women's participation in sports, promoting sports for people with disabilities, building anti-doping capacity and sports management....
Ms. HIGUCHI Keiko expressed her hope to receive comments from delegates on the projects as well as the ASEAN-Japan Sports Cooperation Framework 2030, towards the ASEAN Action Plan on Sports for the period 2026-2030 to contribute to further promoting ASEAN + Japan cooperation in the future....
The theme of the 16th ASEAN Senior Sports Officials Meeting this year is “Orientation of Sports, Contributing to Sustainable Development” which is very consistent with the goals and orientations of Japan in this cooperation mechanism. Vietnam commits to participating in regional activities within the framework of ASEAN-Japan cooperation to promote sports cooperation and sports-related activities between ASEAN member countries and partner countries and international organizations that are ASEAN partners, Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Minh emphasized.
