On the afternoon of February 6 (December 27), Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) officially tested a cashless collection system at the entrance/exit area of Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Tan Son Nhat International Airport).

Trial operation period from February 6 to March 7, helping to shorten the payment time of vehicles and reduce congestion during the peak Tet holiday.

ACV representatives said they have installed RFID reading equipment, license plate recognition cameras and software systems to collect service fees, similar to the method currently being deployed at expressway toll stations.

The systems deployed at airports have been integrated synchronously with the national non-stop toll collection system.

All vehicles with a traffic wallet account used on national highways and expressways can make non-stop payments through the service toll lanes of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, without needing to stick an additional card or incur additional procedures.

ACV will continue to diversify the forms of service fee collection at the port entrance/exit areas through international payment cards, QR codes via bank applications or e-wallets. Applying a variety of payment methods when traveling through airports creates favorable conditions for vehicle owners, minimizing stopping/parking time to less than 5 seconds/transaction, solving the inconvenience of using cash for vehicle owners.

ACV said that during the testing period, there will be technical staff from the equipment system supplier on duty at Tan Son Nhat to support operations.

Recently, ACV and HITD have conducted surveys and developed plans to install equipment and connect cashless and automatic collection systems at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai International Airports.

A taxi driver said that implementing non-stop toll collection will help drivers not have to stop to pay fares, especially on routes from the airport to Truong Son Street to Cong Hoa, which will be more convenient.

Previously, regarding the issue of non-stop toll collection at airports, the Department of Roads proposed that the Ministry of Transport report to the Prime Minister to allow the pilot implementation of non-stop electronic toll collection service at the two largest airports in the country, Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat, for a period of 6 months.

The above proposal aims to create convenience for people, shorten the time for vehicles to enter and exit the airport, thereby reducing congestion in and outside the airport.

Currently, ACV is implementing service fee collection for vehicles picking up and dropping off passengers in two groups of airports. Group 1 applies to Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Da Nang airports, vehicles entering and exiting within 10 minutes will be charged 10,000 VND/trip for vehicles with less than 9 seats, 15,000 VND/trip for vehicles with 10 - 30 seats, 25,000 VND/trip for vehicles with 30 seats or more.

Group 2 is the remaining airports that charge a fee for cars with less than 9 seats of VND5,000/trip, 10-16 seats of VND10,000/trip, 16-29 seats of VND15,000/trip and 30 seats or more of VND25,000/trip.
