According to De Telegraaf , the former Manchester United coach is getting closer to returning to the old home that made his name.

The Dutch side have endured a poor start to the season under John Heitinga, dropping points in the Eredivisie and suffering heavy defeats in Europe.

The pressure on Heitinga is mounting. A 4-0 defeat to Olympique Marseille in the Champions League in midweek angered fans and pushed the board into action.

Many members of the Ajax board are in favour of a return for Ten Hag. At 55, Erik ten Hag is unemployed after a brief and unsuccessful spell at Bayer Leverkusen, where he was sacked after just three Bundesliga games.

Before that, Ten Hag had two turbulent years at Manchester United (2022-2024), where he brought home two titles (League Cup 2023 and FA Cup 2024) but could not save his position due to inconsistent form.

However, his brilliant record at Ajax from 2018-2022 - with three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups and a run to the 2019 Champions League semi-finals - makes him the ideal candidate to rescue his former club.

According to Voetball , Ten Hag expressed his willingness to return to Ajax. However, the cost of compensation from Leverkusen (more than 6 million euros) and his high salary could be a big barrier.
