More information on Apple's mixed reality glasses

According to Engadget , in early 2023, Bloomberg's writer said that Apple's upcoming mixed reality glasses would have an external power source. At that time, Gurman said that Apple decided not to provide a built-in battery for the glasses for a number of reasons, including the device overheating and wanting the glasses to be lighter for more comfortable wearing.

Will Apple's Mixed Reality Glasses Become Bulky With External Power Supply?

Now, Gurman has shared more information about what users can expect from the upcoming Apple device in terms of power. He says the device, called Reality Pro or Reality One, will have two ports: USB-C for data transfer and a “new proprietary charging connector.” Based on the latter description, it appears to be referring to Apple’s recently redesigned MagSafe charging port. The included power cable is said to have a round tip that magnetically attaches to the glasses. Once plugged in, users will need to twist it to lock the cable in place.

As for the power supply, it's about the size of an iPhone and looks like the MagSafe Battery Pack. It's reportedly capable of powering the glasses for 2 hours on a single charge. Recharging will be via a USB-C cable that connects to a MacBook Pro charger. Gurman speculates that Apple will allow users to purchase additional power sources separately, as the one that comes with the glasses is only good for a short amount of time.

Overall, Gurman’s latest report highlights the power delivery that Apple’s first-generation mixed reality headset will receive when it launches later this year. With a device that uses a bulky power delivery method and a rumored price tag of up to $3,000, it’s hard for the average consumer to stomach.
