Since he was a child, Dinh Tri Hieu, born in 1989, in Huong Can commune, Thanh Son district, had a passion for bonsai. Growing up, having a family and being financially independent, that passion made him even more attached to the profession of creating and caring for bonsai. Mainly shaping elm trees, he also earns hundreds of millions of dong each year.
Mr. Hieu takes care of and creates a canopy for the newly found elm tree.
Duoi is a medium-height tree with dense foliage, so it is very popular as an ornamental plant in the garden or as a bonsai. Duoi trees often grow on cliffs or in old rice fields. To find Duoi tree embryos, Mr. Hieu had to travel all over the province and even to neighboring provinces such as Hoa Binh , Son La and neighboring areas.
He shared: “To find a few years old, beautiful-shaped elm tree, I have to bring a drill and chisel with my colleagues to dig and chisel for months. The most important thing when getting an elm tree is to keep the natural shape of the tree. Therefore, with a beautiful tree in a difficult location, the cost of hiring workers for one digging can be up to several tens of millions of dong."
From the time he finds the tree embryo, brings it home to take care of it, creates the canopy, and pots it into the finished product, it takes 2-3 years or 4-5 years. But sometimes when he brings the tree embryo home, he works and livestreams while making videos while creating the canopy and potting it on the Bonsai Enthusiasts Association group and many satisfied customers ask to buy it. There are trees that are sold for 70-80 million VND. Or there are customers who know, come to the garden to buy the tree and pay a high price. His customers are mainly in provinces such as: Ha Nam, Nam Dinh , Hanoi, Hai Phong and members of the Bonsai Enthusiasts Association on social networks across the country.
Mr. Hieu creates a canopy for a tree over 2 meters high.
“Taking care of bonsai is like taking care of a child, you have to shape it and know its strengths to create a perfect product” - Mr. Hieu confided.
In addition to his passion for bonsai, he also looks for large tree stumps that have been cut down, digs up the roots and crafts them into sets of tables and chairs to sell. Each completed set can sell for 15-30 million VND/set. From bonsai, carpentry, pig farming... his total annual income is 200-300 million VND, thereby contributing to creating jobs and improving the life of his family.
