Prime Minister attends ASEAN+1 Summit with China, South Korea, Japan

On September 6, within the framework of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related summits, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and leaders of countries attended the ASEAN+1 Summits with each of their partners, China, South Korea and Japan, according to VOV.

Speaking at the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that ASEAN and China continue to coordinate closely and join hands to make the region the center of economic growth.

The Prime Minister suggested that China continue to expand the import of goods and accelerate the process of opening its market for agricultural, aquatic and fruit products from ASEAN countries, including transit through Vietnam, while coordinating to maintain smooth customs clearance in the context of agricultural products entering the peak harvest season and increasing the quota of goods transiting by Chinese railway to third countries.

The Prime Minister hopes that the ASEAN- China relationship will not only be each other's largest economic and trade partners but also one of each other's most important comprehensive strategic partners for peace, cooperation and development.

At the 24th ASEAN-Korea Summit, speaking on behalf of ASEAN as the coordinator of ASEAN-Korea relations, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the ASEAN-Korea Strategic Partnership and Comprehensive Cooperation continues to be promoted, and welcomed the proposal of the ASEAN-Korea Solidarity Initiative (KASI) by Korea to enhance bilateral relations. The Prime Minister thanked the countries for supporting the ASEAN-Korea Day initiative in November 2023 in Vietnam.

Looking forward to the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Korea relations in 2024, the Prime Minister suggested that both sides should make joint efforts to open a new journey with a longer vision and higher goals.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to create a major shift in economic cooperation, promoting trade and investment in a balanced and sustainable direction. At the same time, he hoped that Korea would further open its market to export goods such as agricultural and aquatic products, seasonal fruits from ASEAN countries, support ASEAN enterprises to participate more deeply in the global supply chain of Korean enterprises, and create conditions for ASEAN enterprises to expand investment opportunities in Korea.

In order to enhance cooperation for a sustainable development future for the people of both sides, the Prime Minister proposed to further promote cooperation in digital transformation, biotechnology, high-tech electronics, semiconductors, clean energy, smart cities, high-tech agriculture, building specialized industrial production complexes along the value chain, being environmentally friendly, implementing emission reduction commitments, enhancing cultural exchanges, and promoting Mekong sub-regional cooperation through the framework of the Mekong-Korea Partnership.

At the 26th ASEAN-Japan Summit, ASEAN leaders and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio agreed to adopt a Joint Statement establishing the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a new development milestone on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations in 2023.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides should make economic cooperation a key pillar and a driving force to promote the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, further promoting trade and investment exchanges and stabilizing the supply chain. Accordingly, he suggested that Japan facilitate exports from Vietnam and ASEAN countries to the Japanese market and support regional enterprises to participate more deeply in the supply chain of Japanese enterprises and the global supply chain.

Affirming that Vietnam and ASEAN countries have been and will facilitate more than 15,000 Japanese enterprises operating in the region, the Prime Minister hopes that Japanese strategic investors will join hands with ASEAN to further promote emerging and potential cooperation areas such as green economy, digital economy, circular economy, etc.

Emphasizing that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership needs to aim for a vision of sustainable development for the people of both sides, the Prime Minister welcomed and affirmed his readiness to realize the idea of ​​building the region into an innovation center.

The Prime Minister suggested that Japan actively coordinate with ASEAN to effectively implement Japan's initiatives on energy transition and a zero-emission Asian community, and together with ASEAN support the Mekong sub-region countries in managing and sustainably using water resources and improving their capacity to respond to climate change.
