According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 27, the visit of the Dutch Prime Minister took place at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The visit took place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands. This was also a reciprocal visit by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte after the visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the Netherlands last December.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is sympathetic to Vietnam and has made two official visits to Vietnam (June 2014 and April 2019). He has also welcomed high-ranking Vietnamese leaders to the Netherlands many times and said that "the Netherlands is Vietnam's European friend".

Vietnam and the Netherlands established diplomatic relations on April 9, 1973. The two countries established a Strategic Partnership on Climate Change Response and Water Management (2010), a Strategic Partnership on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (2014) and a Comprehensive Partnership (2019).

Vietnam - Netherlands relations have developed positively in many fields, notably investment, trade, agriculture and climate change response.

The Netherlands is Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Europe and the largest EU investor in Vietnam.

Bilateral trade in 2022 will reach 11.09 billion USD, up 32% compared to 2021. In terms of investment, the Netherlands has about 400 projects with a total capital of 13.5 billion USD.

Dutch investment projects are mainly implemented in southern provinces such as Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Binh Duong...

Many investment projects of large corporations operate very effectively such as Heineken (Heineken, Tiger, Bivina beer), Unilever (detergents, cosmetics, Wall cream), Royal Dutch Shell (oil and gas exploitation and distribution), Foremost (milk), Akzo Nobel Coating (pharmaceuticals), Philips (electronics)...

The two sides regularly exchange delegations at all levels, have many bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and closely coordinate and support each other at international forums and organizations.

Cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands is also very diverse, from climate change adaptation and water management to sustainable agriculture, food security and national defense, education and training.

According to the Dutch Embassy in Vietnam, during the visit, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is expected to meet with senior Vietnamese leaders. Accompanying him this time is a delegation of many high-tech enterprises.

Therefore, within the framework of the visit, Mr. Mark Rutte will attend a forum on high-tech enterprises and the green economy. The Dutch leader will also have some activities with local businesses, ride a bicycle and visit students at the Hanoi - Amsterdam School.
