The spirit of solidarity of AMMS-6 was concretized by a successful SEA Games beyond expectations, hosted by Vietnam in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic still having a heavy impact in May 2022.

On October 28, 2021, Singapore hosted the 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports online, demonstrating the flexible adaptation spirit of ASEAN countries in maintaining cooperation and developing the sports sector amid the pandemic.

In the context of serious disruptions to sports activities due to COVID-19, the Joint Statement of AMMS-6 affirmed the determination of ASEAN countries in recovering, digitalizing and ensuring the safe organization of sports events.

The conference agreed to accelerate programs to adapt to the pandemic, such as developing plans to organize tournaments under new conditions, applying technology in training, refereeing and sports administration, and expanding experience sharing among member countries.

Faced with the severe impacts of the pandemic, AMMS-6 also emphasized promoting the sports movement for health, helping the community recover physically and mentally after a long period of social distancing.

The meeting reaffirmed the ASEAN Work Plan on Sports 2021–2025, with key priorities such as expanding the participation of women and youth, enhancing para-sports, anti-doping, and enhancing sports governance capacity.

Notably, despite being held online, the spirit of cooperation among ASEAN member states remained strong. Parties continued to share experiences, maintain momentum in improving policies and preparing for the opening phase.

At the same time, cooperation with partners outside the region, especially Japan and China (AMMS + Japan/China), continues to be identified as an important lever in human resource training, raising standards and sports governance.

With the theme of recovery, safety and sustainability, AMMS-6 has contributed to reorienting ASEAN sports activities in the post-pandemic period, laying a solid foundation for AMMS-7 (2023) and especially AMMS-8 and related conferences that will take place in Hanoi from October 13-17, 2025. The results of AMMS-6 show the vitality of ASEAN solidarity - recovering together, developing together through sports.
