The Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024 is approaching every family, but somewhere there are still traffic violations and law violations arising from moments of not being able to control oneself and being drunk while partying.
VietNamNet reflects the stories that have happened as a warning and hopes that there will be no more incidents that make the task force work hard all night, and the violators even get into trouble with the law.
One night before Tet, the Traffic Police - Order Team, Thu Duc City Police (HCMC) set up a checkpoint to check alcohol concentration on Hiep Binh Street in Hiep Binh Chanh Ward. Many drivers on the road were stopped for administrative checks and alcohol concentration measurements.
Mr. L.D.T. (from Hai Phong ) was driving his motorbike erratically on the road, showing signs of being drunk, so the traffic police immediately signaled him to stop. After testing, Mr. T.'s alcohol concentration was 0.457 mg/liter of breath.
“When the traffic police brought out the alcohol meter to blow my breath, I lost my Tet!”, Mr. T. told reporters when he heard the traffic police announce the fine for his violation was 7 million VND.
Mr. T. shared that he is a carpenter, earning 8 million VND/month. Today, he went to a year-end party with some friends from work and had a few beers.
“This is the first time I have been tested for alcohol concentration. I know the penalty for violating alcohol concentration is very severe and if I have violated, I have to accept it and not complain. Because of having fun, my whole family lost Tet, I feel so sad,” said Mr. T.
Mr. NNH (from Soc Trang ) also had a bitter confession when the Traffic Police - Order Team, Thu Duc City Police informed him that his alcohol concentration violation was 0.388 mg/liter of breath, he was fined 4.5 million VND, and his vehicle was temporarily impounded.
Mr. H. said he was an electrician but had been unemployed for a whole month, had to mortgage his papers and belongings to maintain his daily minimum living. Today he just got a job, received 350,000 VND/day. After finishing work, the owner invited him to a year-end party and he drank 4 cans of beer. After the party, he drove home on his motorbike and encountered a traffic police checkpoint.
“I really regret my pleasure-seeking. I should have gone home after work, but instead I stayed and drank a few beers, which led to this situation. This Tet holiday is considered a lost Tet for me, I can’t go home to be with my family!”, Mr. H. confided bitterly.
Very few violators resisted, mostly with remorseful attitudes.
Officers from the Traffic Police Department – Ho Chi Minh City Police said that in the initial stages of checking and handling alcohol violations , there were some people who resisted and said bad things. Normally, traffic police have to stay calm to make a record, if that person shows signs of resistance, they will ask for support from local police.
However, up to now, when punished, most violators comply seriously, most of them have an attitude of regret for their pleasure-seeking.
Recently, the Traffic Police Department's Patrol Team set up a checkpoint to check and handle alcohol concentration violations at the Dien Bien Phu - Hai Ba Trung intersection, District 1.
At this location, the traffic police team issued an administrative fine of 7 million VND and revoked the driver's license for 23 months for Mr. VTT (residing in Thu Duc City) due to an alcohol concentration of 0.661 mg/liter of breath.
It is worth mentioning that while the traffic police were working, Mr. T. used his phone to broadcast live on social networks.
Mr. T. continuously filmed each traffic police officer on duty, leaving his position with the traffic police many times to film. The traffic police and riot police team calmly reminded him and asked him to cooperate. Mr. T. admitted to drinking 3 cans of beer and was very regretful about his indulgence.
“I filmed and live-streamed to warn everyone not to make the same mistake as me, to comply with the law. I am remorseful, but I am not against it,” Mr. T. affirmed.
Mr. LAQ (residing in Binh Thanh district) was recently stopped by the patrol team to check his alcohol concentration on Pham Van Dong street, Binh Thanh district.
At first, Mr. Q. got out of the car and spoke harshly, but before the politeness and determination of the traffic police officer, he softened his voice and begged, and finally had to comply.
With an alcohol concentration of 0.277 mg/liter of breath, Mr. Q. was notified by the traffic police to be fined 4.5 million VND and have his driver's license revoked for 17 months.
Mr. Q. explained: “I am a manual worker, that fine is almost equal to a month’s salary. Today, I attended the New Year’s Eve party early at my friend’s house and had a few drinks. I had that attitude because I hoped to be forgiven, but if not, I have to accept it.
I advise everyone not to drive after drinking alcohol, and if you want to have fun, take a motorbike taxi home. I hope everyone will comply and not let the Tet holiday be ruined because of your own fun."
Lieutenant Colonel Doan Van Quoi, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department - Ho Chi Minh City Police, said that the Traffic Police Department is coordinating with the police of 21 districts and Thu Duc City to vigorously implement the plan to inspect and handle alcohol concentration violations in particular and ensure traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year holiday in general until February 29.
Traffic police arrange reasonable time and location on routes where traffic accidents frequently occur, routes with restaurants and eateries serving alcohol to check and handle alcohol concentration violations, so that people are more aware, if they have drunk alcohol, they should not drive, in order to prevent traffic accidents.
During the day, traffic police will check and handle violations of alcohol concentration while patrolling and performing duties on the road. If a driver is found to have signs of alcohol use, he/she will be handled according to regulations. At night, traffic police will set up checkpoints to check and handle violations of alcohol concentration.
District and commune police will coordinate to form clusters to inspect and handle alcohol concentration violations on local roads, even in small alleys.
