(NLDO)- After increasing fees, sellers on TikTok Shop may have to pay up to 17% of revenue, not including other costs.

Why TikTok Shop increased fees

Following the report by the Lao Dong Newspaper about the TikTok Shop platform suddenly increasing fees in mid-July 2025, leaving many sellers on this platform unable to react, Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh, representative of TikTok Vietnam, said that the adjustment of the commission fee schedule and some optional service fees applied to sellers operating on the platform from July 18 is to improve service quality.

According to Mr. Thanh, with this change, standard sellers (not part of the TikTok Shop Mall system) will be able to participate in the shipping fee program for free instead of having to register separately as before.

Citing data from within the platform, Mr. Thanh said that up to 95% of the value of goods traded (GMV) comes from orders that apply the free shipping code in this program. That shows that the free shipping policy is a key factor in meeting the expectations of Vietnamese consumers when shopping online.

Along with adjusting the fee structure, TikTok Shop also announced a reduction in service fees for the Voucher Extra program, a package to support sellers in creating attractive discount offers for consumers.

In addition, the platform also commits to reinvest heavily in operational technology, user security and community programs, aiming for sustainable development of the entire e-commerce industry.

"TikTok Shop understands that any changes in costs can affect sellers' profit margins in the short term. However, the platform expects that parallel incentive policies and long-term reinvestment strategies will help sellers grow sales more strongly, while improving the consumer experience," a representative of the platform shared.

TikTok Shop increased fees 2-3 times?

However, the actual record shows that the total fee that sellers have to pay has increased 2-3 times compared to before. Before July 18, the Shipping Fee Program was optional, with a fee of 4.5% of the order value and was limited to 30,000 VND per product. Now, this program has been included in the mandatory platform fee, causing many industries to suffer skyrocketing commission rates. For example, fashion sellers who previously only paid about 3%-4% in fees may now have to pay up to 10%-12%.

Not stopping there, if we add a 5% transaction fee for each successfully delivered order, the total fee that the seller has to pay to TikTok Shop can be up to 17% of revenue, not to mention other expenses such as discounts or shipping support.

This is not the first time TikTok Shop has adjusted its fees. Since April 1, the platform has increased the basic commission fee for regular sellers, from 3% to 4%; for stores in TikTok Shop Mall, the increase is even higher, by an average of about 2 percentage points, up to 6.05% - 7.7%.

This fee increase trend is also happening at the same time on other e-commerce platforms. Shopee, TikTok Shop's biggest rival in Vietnam, has also sharply increased its fixed fees since April. Some product categories recorded a combined fee that could increase 2-3 times. In July, Shopee continued to apply an additional infrastructure fee of VND 3,000/order, causing the total cost to fluctuate from 6.5% to 15%, not including other operating fees such as PiShip.
