On the evening of October 5, news from Cuu Long University said that Dr. Nguyen Thanh Dung - Vice Principal of the school - had just signed a notice to warn against cases of impersonating the school to announce studying abroad, impersonating the police to defraud and appropriate property from students.
Warning from Cuu Long University
Accordingly, through the work of grasping the situation among students of the school in Vinh Long province and from the Cyber Security Department of Vinh Long Provincial Police, the school discovered many cases of students being called by subjects impersonating police agencies, prosecutors, and courts to defraud and appropriate property with amounts up to several hundred million VND.
The way these subjects perform is very sophisticated, using many convincing scenarios to create trust as well as play on the fear of young students.
First, the subject informed students about foreign study abroad programs by cutting and pasting the principal's signature and the school's seal to create trust among students.
Then, the subject uses tricks such as: calling to inform about online orders to make initial contact. If they do not cooperate, they will introduce themselves as authorities and inform that the students are involved in illegal cases (personal information is used to violate the law, create bank accounts, borrow black credit, are involved in money laundering, etc.); at the same time, they exchange some confirmation information such as student ID number, major to create trust that it is an authority.
After the students agreed to cooperate, the subjects would introduce them to video chat groups (Zalo, Telegram, Zoom,...) to show them their uniforms, work areas, and documents from the authorities to further increase their trust.
The subjects will ask students to prove their financial status to conduct investigations or prove that the students are not involved by transferring money as requested and appropriating assets (in some cases, students are also instructed to borrow money on momo wallet, borrow from relatives to transfer money to the subjects).
From the above cases, the school informs all staff, lecturers and students to be seriously vigilant against strange calls and not to transfer money to subjects impersonating police agencies, prosecutors' offices, or courts to avoid property damage.
When receiving a strange call like the above case, students are required to notify their family, academic advisor, and the Office of Political Affairs - Students for support. The school requires heads of units to inform all staff, lecturers and students.
In addition to the above warning, Cuu Long University has also just reported to Vinh Long Provincial Police about the school's fake announcement.
Fake announcement of Cuu Long University
According to the fake announcement, Cuu Long University is implementing a student exchange program in Japan in 2025, with the Japanese Government granting short-term scholarships, with 100 preliminary candidates (70 university students, 30 college students) for the school's students. All costs for participating in the 3-month program in Japan, travel, accommodation... are covered by the Japanese side. To participate in the program, students must submit their application to the school, with an electronic account statement of at least 250 million VND.
