General Secretary To Lam successfully concludes official visit to the Republic of Finland

Seeing off the delegation at Helsinki airport, on the Finnish side were Mr. Mika Koskinen, Director of the Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs ; Mr. Pekka Juhani Voutilainen, Ambassador of Finland to Vietnam.

On the Vietnamese side, there were Vietnamese Ambassador to Finland Pham Thi Thanh Binh and officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Finland.

During the visit, General Secretary To Lam held talks with President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb and witnessed the signing ceremony of bilateral cooperation documents; met with Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo; received the Chairman of the Communist Party of Finland; met with the First Vice President of the Finnish Parliament ; met with a number of prominent Finnish businesses and witnessed the exchange of cooperation documents between the two countries.

The General Secretary and the delegation also visited the Experience Center - Nokia Company Headquarters in Finland; attended a concert in Finland jointly organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Finland and Helsinki City (Finland); visited Aalto University, met Vietnamese students in Finland; received the Finland-Vietnam Friendship Association...

General Secretary To Lam and President of Finland Alexander Stubb agreed to upgrade the bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership - the result of 52 years of friendship and cooperation in many fields, based on trust, equality and mutual respect, with the aim of deepening bilateral and multilateral relations for the benefit of the two peoples; while contributing to promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

The two sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral high-level visits and contacts through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, and local authorities of Vietnam and the Government of Finland, to consolidate political cooperation and enhance mutual understanding; agreed to establish an annual strategic consultation mechanism on regional and international issues, coordinate in addressing traditional and non-traditional security challenges, as well as review and update cooperation activities in bilateral relations, including bilateral discussions in the fields of defense and security.

The two sides also emphasized the importance of close cooperation in regional and international organizations, affirmed support for multilateralism and full respect and compliance with international law, and resolved disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law.
