
Seeing off General Secretary To Lam and his wife and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation at Helsinki International Airport, on the Finnish side were: Mr. Mika Koskinen, Director of the Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs ; Mr. Pekka Juhani Voutilaine, Ambassador of Finland to Vietnam. On the Vietnamese side were: Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Binh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Finland; officers and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Finland.
During the visit, General Secretary To Lam held talks with President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb and witnessed the signing ceremony of bilateral cooperation documents between Vietnam and Finland; met with Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo; received the Chairman of the Communist Party of Finland; met with the First Vice President of the Finnish Parliament ; met with representatives of several prominent Finnish enterprises and witnessed the handover ceremony of cooperation documents between the two countries; visited the Experience Center - Nokia Headquarters in Finland; attended a concert jointly organized by the Embassy of Vietnam in Finland and the City of Helsinki (Finland); visited Aalto University, met with Vietnamese students in Finland; received representatives of the Finland-Vietnam Friendship Association...
The working trip of General Secretary To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation was a great success with outstanding achievements. The two sides agreed to issue a Joint Statement on the establishment of a Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Finland. The Vietnam-Finland Strategic Partnership is built on the foundation of 52 years of friendship and cooperation in many fields, based on trust, equality and mutual respect, with the aim of deepening bilateral and multilateral relations for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
The Strategic Partnership between the two countries also contributes to promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world, on the basis of compliance with the United Nations Charter, international law and the principles of respecting independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
The two sides agreed to further increase bilateral high-level visits and contacts through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, and local authorities of Vietnam and the Finnish government, to consolidate political cooperation and enhance mutual understanding.
The two sides agreed to establish an annual strategic consultation mechanism on regional and international issues, coordinate in addressing traditional and non-traditional security challenges, as well as review and update cooperation activities in bilateral relations, including bilateral discussions in the fields of defense and security.
The two sides stressed the importance of close cooperation at regional and international organizations, affirmed support for multilateralism and full respect for and compliance with international law, and resolved disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law.
Key areas of cooperation include: Political-diplomatic cooperation; economic-trade-investment; science-technology, innovation and digital transformation; education-training, labor, development; agriculture-environment, energy, infrastructure, transportation; people-to-people exchange to strengthen friendship and enhance mutual understanding.
This official visit to the Republic of Finland by General Secretary To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation took place at a time when the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973-2023), marking a milestone in sustainable cooperation and opening a new phase of cooperation towards the next 50 years. This is an important opportunity for the two countries to look back on the good achievements of cooperation in the past as well as to set out major orientations, renew the relationship, create momentum, and bring the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation to new heights.
