According to a November 23 announcement by NATO spokesperson Farah Dakhlallah, Secretary General Mark Rutte met with US President-elect Donald Trump to discuss global security issues facing the alliance.

Ms. Farah Dakhlallah revealed that the meeting took place on November 22 in Palm Beach, Florida, USA.

Secretary General Mark Rutte and his team also met with MP Mike Waltz and members of the US President-elect's national security team.

During his first term as US President, Mr. Trump pushed Europe to increase defense spending and questioned the fairness of responsibilities within NATO.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly criticized this military alliance, and outlined plans to withdraw the US from NATO while he is in office.

Experts predict that in the current context, Mr. Trump may not withdraw the US from NATO, but the coming years will be a challenge for this military alliance.

Last week, Mr. Trump chose Mr. Matthew Whitaker, who is said to have no foreign policy experience, to be the US Ambassador to NATO.
