According to RT on October 6, President Trump faces this legal challenge in the context of protests taking place in many places in the US to protest Mr. Trump's tightening immigration policy and the deployment of military forces in cities.

The Pentagon said it would deploy troops to "support U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other federal employees in carrying out official duties, including enforcing federal law and protecting federal property."
California Governor Gavin Newsom said Mr Trump's deployment of the National Guard was a "blatant abuse of the law and power". Oregon and California argued that the deployment of out-of-state guards was an act of ultra vires and required a separate court decision.
A federal judge in Oregon has issued a temporary injunction barring the deployment of any National Guard troops to Portland, including those from other states like California.
Governor Newsom and California Attorney General Rob Bonta joined Oregon in asking Judge Karin Immergut to extend the ban and prohibit the deployment of military forces from California to Oregon.
The court order will remain in effect until at least October 19 while the legal challenge continues.
Meanwhile, President Trump told reporters on October 5 that the military deployment was necessary because "Portland is burning" - a claim denied by local officials.
