To produce the 2024 autumn-winter crop with high productivity and output, the agricultural sector and localities in the province are focusing on implementing production plans and projects to ensure the best time frame.
People of Hoang Cat commune (Hoang Hoa) plow and clear land to prepare for the autumn crop.
In the 2024 autumn-winter crop, the whole province strives to plant 152,000 hectares of various crops. Of which: 112,900 hectares of rice, 12,440 hectares of corn, 1,000 hectares of peanuts, 12,500 hectares of various vegetables and beans, 12,060 hectares of other crops... The whole province strives to achieve a total food output of 670,041 tons. According to the Thanh Hoa Hydrometeorological Station, during the autumn-winter crop production period, heat waves may reach record levels, drought at the beginning of the crop, saltwater intrusion, and storms and floods at the end of the crop will affect the planting progress as well as the growth and development of crops. Along with that, storm and tropical depression activities are more concentrated in the second half of the crop, total rainfall will be lower than the average of many years. In addition, pests and diseases arise and develop in a complex manner and pose a potential risk of causing serious damage to crops such as leaf rollers, brown planthoppers, leaf blight, fall armyworms, etc.
Based on the above forecasts, to ensure the success of the 2024 autumn-winter crop production, the agricultural sector has developed and implemented a production plan. On that basis, districts, towns and cities review their plans and develop plans to ensure completion and over-fulfillment of the province's plans. In particular, localities focus on planting areas, food output, and production value per unit area. At the same time, specific targets are assigned to commune levels, specifying crop types, in line with the actual conditions and advantages of each locality. In addition, localities focus on reviewing and converting inefficient rice areas with inactive irrigation during the crop season to dry crops such as corn, vegetables, and animal feed crops. Along with that, localities select varieties that meet standards, have suitable growing periods, and are resistant to external conditions for planting.
According to Mr. Vu Quang Trung, Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, due to the early and not limited autumn-autumn crop time frame, localities need to continue to expand the area of early-season tea cultivation, minimizing late-season tea, both ensuring safe production and creating land funds to deploy winter-season production. Each district should only structure 5-6 main varieties, each commune 2-3 varieties to effectively implement intensive management measures, water regulation and pest management. For upland crops such as corn, peanuts, vegetables of all kinds..., the seed structure should be arranged appropriately according to each land and good, high-quality varieties with stable consumption markets should be used.
To produce the autumn-season crop within the best time frame, by June 20, localities in the province had accelerated progress and liberated 116,122.2 hectares out of 152,000 hectares of rice land. Local farmers had sown 3,761.7 tons of seedlings (including 2,858.6 tons of pure rice seeds; 903 tons of hybrid rice seeds). In addition, farmers in Dong Son, Quang Xuong, Yen Dinh, Thieu Hoa, Trieu Son, Nong Cong districts... had planted 38,776.8 hectares of autumn-season rice.
According to Mr. Vu Quang Trung, localities instruct people to prepare the soil carefully, use biological products to decompose straw and treat pests in advance to avoid organic poisoning after transplanting and limit harmful pests. Farmers only sow and plant on areas that are completely proactive in irrigation and drainage. Localities encourage people to apply technical measures such as tray seeding and transplanting machines to ensure quality and progress. Along with that, encourage the use of organic fertilizers of all kinds, specialized synthetic NPK fertilizers according to the manufacturer's instructions for each type of plant and each growth period. In the autumn-winter crop, crops grow quickly, so fertilization must be done early after the plants take root, start to branch or start to develop stems and leaves. Localities need to strengthen coordination with units exploiting irrigation works to regulate water appropriately, especially in the stages that require water for crops such as branching, beginning to differentiate flowers, heading - flowering. In places where water is proactive, apply water-saving irrigation, surface-drying and have timely drainage plans when heavy rains and floods occur. The Department will send specialized staff to regularly inspect and visit fields to estimate, forecast, and detect early harmful pests and diseases and have solutions to direct and guide timely prevention measures.
By implementing production measures well from the beginning of the season, localities will be proactive in implementing the set plan, ensuring comprehensive success in the 2024 autumn-spring crop production in the province.
