The plan focuses on five key economic sectors and fields of the province, including: Information technology, artificial intelligence and data science; Biotechnology and medicine; Agriculture, forestry and fishery technology; Renewable energy technology; Technology serving tourism and smart cities.

The objective of the Plan is to build a feasible and effective technological innovation roadmap suitable to the characteristics of Gia Lai province; to serve as a basis for orienting, developing and implementing mechanisms, policies, programs, projects, science , technology, innovation and digital transformation projects of the province in the coming period; to enhance the competitiveness of key economic sectors, create an attractive investment environment, attract resources for technological innovation and socio-economic development.
The plan sets a target that by 2030, Gia Lai will strive to have 30% or more of enterprises innovating business processes and models; 25% or more of small and medium-sized enterprises cooperating in research and development with institutes/schools; 60% or more of local small and medium-sized enterprises applying digital technology ; training and attracting high-quality human resources; attracting at least 3 large international technology organizations and enterprises to set up headquarters or invest in research and production in Gia Lai.
By 2035, Gia Lai strives to have 50% or more of enterprises innovating business processes and models; 40% or more of small and medium-sized enterprises cooperating in research and development with institutes/schools; 85% or more of local small and medium-sized enterprises applying digital technology; mastering a number of strategic technologies and digital technologies such as: artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, cloud computing, blockchain, semiconductors, quantum technology, nanotechnology, biotechnology; applying modern technology to environmental management and smart cities.
The plan is divided into 3 phases. In which, phase 1 (from now until December 2026) will develop and promulgate the "Roadmap for technological innovation of key economic sectors of Gia Lai province until 2035" and related mechanisms and policies.
Phase 2 (2027-2030) will deploy and evaluate pilot projects on the application of new and cutting-edge technologies. Phase 3 (2031-2035) will optimize and expand successful models, perfecting the province's innovation ecosystem.
The Department of Science and Technology is assigned by the Provincial People's Committee to preside over, advise the Provincial People's Committee to promulgate and organize the implementation of the entire content of the Technology Innovation Roadmap Plan; advise the Provincial People's Committee to establish an interdisciplinary working group; develop a detailed outline, annual implementation plan and assign specific tasks to agencies and units.
At the same time, preside over and coordinate with departments, branches and localities to organize surveys and evaluate the technology status of enterprises in the area; research new technology trends, develop and update the technology innovation roadmap; preside over the organization of seminars, talks, and science and technology forums to collect opinions from experts and enterprises; synthesize and complete the implementation results report to the Provincial People's Committee; be the focal point to connect and coordinate with central agencies, ICISE Center, research institutes, universities, experts and domestic and international enterprises to support the implementation of technology innovation activities in the province.
