The call was made by Mr. Kim Jong-un during his visit to the Nuclear Weapons Institute and a facility producing weapons-grade nuclear material. The news did not disclose the location of the facilities or the date of the inspection. Mr. Kim Jong-un emphasized the need to increase the number of centrifuges to increase the number of self-defense nuclear weapons in line with the line of the Korean Workers' Party to build nuclear armed forces.

According to Yonhap news agency, this is the first time North Korea has publicly disclosed a uranium enrichment facility. South Korean and US intelligence agencies believe that North Korea is operating uranium enrichment facilities at the Kangson nuclear complex, near the capital Pyongyang, and at Yongbyon. In 2010, Pyongyang invited Siegfried Hecker, a famous American nuclear scientist , to inspect the uranium enrichment facility at Yongbyon.

Yonhap news agency commented that Pyongyang's sudden public disclosure of its uranium enrichment facility could be a move to show off its capabilities, ahead of the US presidential election taking place at the end of November.
