Early morning of August 3, at Hanoi Athletics Palace, referee Tran Dinh Thinh - Silver Whistle of V-League 2024-2025, suddenly fell into a dangerous situation while performing a physical test according to the regulations of the Vietnam Football Federation and VPF Company. The new season is about to start, so VFF and VPF organized a training course for the referee and supervisor team. In which, the referee physical test is mandatory.

The incident occurred when referee Tran Dinh Thinh was running in the last turn. He showed signs of dizziness, difficulty breathing and collapsed. The medical team immediately performed first aid on the spot and then took referee Tran Dinh Thinh to the emergency room. To prepare for the physical test, the organizing committee arranged 4 ambulances, on standby right at the Hanoi Athletics Palace.

Despite intensive treatment at the hospital, referee Tran Dinh Thinh could not survive. His colleagues were shocked by this great loss. All day on August 3, VFF, VPF and the Vietnamese referee community prayed for referee Tran Dinh Thinh to overcome the critical condition. Referee Tran Dinh Thinh's father and wife also flew from Dong Nai to Hanoi yesterday afternoon.

But sadly, the miracle did not come. Vietnamese football bid farewell to a good referee. Last night, the referees and assistant referees were all present at the hospital. When the doctor announced the sad news at night, everyone was in great pain. The family of referee Tran Dinh Thinh and VFF, VPF decided to arrange a special car to transport the referee's body to Dong Nai that same night. VFF, VPF, and the referees bid farewell to their devoted colleague back to their homeland.

Since Hanoi is in the hot season, the organizing committee has arranged a physical fitness test from 5am on August 3. In order to create favorable conditions and ensure the best physical condition for the referees, the Organizing Committee (OC) has agreed on a plan with all referees to prepare and arrange the testing time to start early in the morning, avoiding the effects of the heat in Hanoi in recent days. In addition, the medical work has also been carefully prepared by the MC with 4 ambulances and 4 medical teams on duty at the testing point to be ready to respond to any arising situations.

The car carrying referee Tran Dinh Thinh moved from Hanoi to Dong Nai that night. Also traveling was a car carrying representatives of VFF and VPF to help the family with the funeral arrangements. The VPF office in the south will also come to the referee's house this morning to take care of everything.

In addition, to be eligible to participate in the physical fitness test, referees attending the training must ensure that they have health examination papers as prescribed in Circular 32/2023/TT-BYT. Before the physical fitness test, the referees' health indicators were very good, without any abnormal signs. Therefore, they were allowed to take the physical fitness test.

Referee Tran Dinh Thinh (born in 1982, from Dong Nai), was once known as one of the "yellow card kings" in V-League 2024-2025, giving out 72 yellow cards throughout the season. He was awarded the Bronze Whistle title for the 2023-2024 season. And recently, he was awarded the Silver Whistle title for the 2024-2025 season.
