The 68th Artillery Regiment was established on October 20, 1955 on the basis of artillery battalions and companies that had achieved many outstanding feats, participated in many major campaigns on battlefields in the resistance war against French colonialism, contributing to the victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954.

After stabilizing the organization, the Regiment organized training, regular construction, drills, competitions, and sports events, all of which achieved high results, starting the "Three Firsts" emulation movement in the entire army. In the formation of Division 304 (Army Corps 2), the Regiment fought bravely, achieving many feats in the resistance war against the US, saving the country and the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. With its outstanding achievements, on August 29, 1985, the 68th Artillery Regiment was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State.

From July 2023, Artillery Regiment 68 was assigned to Division 312, Corps 1 (now Corps 12) and transferred from a permanent framework unit to a full-fledged unit.

The regiment has invested in basic construction, equipped with many modern weapons and equipment; organized training, combat readiness; built a strong and comprehensive "Exemplary, typical" unit and carried out assigned sudden tasks.

Over the years, the Regiment has always actively innovated training content and methods, mastered new and modern weapons and equipment; improved combat readiness; command organization level, combat coordination ability; participated in competitions and sports events and won high prizes. In 2024, the Regiment was awarded the "Outstanding Unit in the Emulation Movement" flag by the Ministry of National Defense.
