Recently, Roche Vietnam Co., Ltd. cooperated with Nha Trang Pasteur Institute to organize the Roche Vietnam Innovation Day 2025 "Pioneering Innovation, Leading the Future", gathering more than 250 medical experts nationwide to share initiatives in the field of diagnosis and mark 15 years of Roche pioneering the deployment of automated testing systems in Vietnam.

During the event, many practical topics were presented, including challenges in routine testing, the automation journey of the Department of Biochemistry, Bach Mai Hospital and the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Hanoi Medical University Hospital. Many breakthroughs in laboratory automation were presented at the event Laboratory Errors: The Silent Danger and the “Savior” Called Automation.

Customer training courses at the Model Diagnostic Training Center are regularly organized by Roche to help improve the quality of medical testing and patient treatment outcomes.

At the event, experts analyzed the risks in biochemical and thyroid testing procedures, which are important in screening and diagnosing common diseases such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, kidney failure, etc.

Notably, errors due to turbidity of plasma samples, often arising from manual steps in sampling, preservation, and processing, lead to incorrect test indices and affect the diagnostic results. For thyroid tests, indices such as TSH, FT4, TPO-Ab are very important in detecting endocrine diseases such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Basedow's.

Especially during pregnancy, monitoring these parameters reduces the risk to the mother and fetus. However, errors in test results can occur from steps such as sample collection at the wrong time, poor storage or inappropriate choice of analytical tools. Roche Diagnostics is a global leader in automation. These discussions highlight the important role of automation in the modern laboratory.

The application of these systems helps standardize the process and control the quality of patient samples, such as blood samples, right from the pre-analytical stage - the first step in determining the effectiveness and safety for patients. As a result, processing time is shortened, results are returned faster, helping medical staff access timely information and make accurate decisions in diagnosing and treating patients.

To date, Roche has deployed 34 automation systems in large hospitals and laboratories across the country, affirming its pioneering position in this field.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Do Thai Hung - Director of Nha Trang Pasteur Institute acknowledged Roche's efforts in training, technical support, updating new technology trends, helping medical facilities access international standards on testing quality management.

“15 years is not a short journey. It is a journey that proves the right vision and strategy for modernizing healthcare, in which testing plays a core role. The automation system has helped the Pasteur Institute accelerate sample processing, minimize errors and ensure the quality of results. We also acknowledge the persistent support from Roche in training and technology transfer, helping us approach international standards,” Mr. Hung emphasized.

As the first unit in Vietnam to deploy Roche’s automation system since 2010, Bach Mai Hospital has recorded many positive improvements. The time to return results, which used to take 3-4 hours, has been shortened to only 1-2 hours, while still ensuring high accuracy and consistency, even when processing more than 40,000 tests per day.

Mr. Ricky He, General Director of Roche Vietnam, said: “Laboratory automation is not just about equipment and technology, it is Roche's sustainable commitment to improving the healthcare system. We believe that by working together and cooperating closely, we will build a strong medical community, pioneering in applying scientific and technological advances to improve the quality of healthcare for the Vietnamese people."
