Accordingly, October 14th of each year has been chosen by the world's three leading standards organizations, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as World Standards Day to honor the contributions and cooperation of thousands of experts and organizations around the world in the development and application of standards. From 2021, the three organizations have agreed on the theme: "Standards for SDGs - Our shared vision for a better world" as a multi-year journey, demonstrating the role of standards in contributing tools to achieve sustainable development goals (SDG). They are global, universal goals designed to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030 in every United Nations member state.
