Vietnam national football team is further and further away from the top 100 of FIFA rankings.

During the FIFA Days in June, the Vietnamese team played only one match, against Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Away from home, coach Kim Sang-sik's team suffered a crushing 0-4 defeat against a lower-ranked opponent. This result caused the Vietnamese team to lose 13.91 points and drop 4 places, to 113th in the world . Meanwhile, Malaysia earned 14.91 points and increased 6 places, climbing to 125th in the world.

Currently, the total score of the Vietnamese team is 1169.92 points, 65.71 points behind the 100th ranked team, Guantamela. This is quite a big gap, and the return to the top 100 of the "Golden Star Warriors" is getting further and further away. The last time the Vietnamese team was in the world's top 100 was in December 2023. At that time, we were ranked 94th and were the number 1 team in Southeast Asia.

The highest-ranked team in Southeast Asia at the moment is Thailand. In the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the “War Elephants” also suffered a shocking defeat against weak opponent Turkmenistan and were deducted 12.24 points, falling to 102nd in the world.

Meanwhile, the emerging power of Southeast Asia, Indonesia, continues to rise strongly. Despite losing 0-6 to Japan, Indonesia still accumulated 11.63 points thanks to the 1-0 victory over China, thereby reducing the gap with Vietnam to 5 places.

At the top of the FIFA rankings in July 2025, the top 5 teams remained unchanged. Argentina continued to hold the No. 1 position, followed by Spain, France, England and Brazil. Meanwhile, Portugal, with the Nations League championship, added 20.45 points but only moved up 1 place, to No. 6 in the world.
