Ukraine issues nationwide alert, series of explosions shake many cities; Russia takes action in Belgorod

Reuters reported that Ukraine issued a nationwide artillery warning on the morning of January 8. On the Telegram application, the Ukrainian Air Force warned that the capital Kiev was under ballistic missile threat.

Meanwhile, Russia's TASS news agency reported that military officials in Ukraine's Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkov, Dnipropetrovsk and Khmelnytskyi also said their cities were suffering a "massive missile attack".

Previously, on January 7, in an interview with the British newspaper Financial Times , Ukrainian army Colonel Ivan Pavlenko said that Russia's use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for attack and reconnaissance is causing the Eastern European country to face more and more difficulties in conflict.

“Russia has started to produce so many UAVs that they are becoming a major threat. The widespread use of UAVs is something new,” Pavlenko said.

According to the above colonel, electronic warfare is becoming more and more important in current conditions, when the Armed Forces of the Eastern European country do not have enough equipment.

Colonel Pavlenko called on Ukraine's Western allies to provide equipment that could block the satellite guidance systems of Russian guided missiles and UAVs.

In another related development, on the same day, January 8, the Russian Defense Ministry said that air defense systems intercepted Ukrainian S-200 missiles in the Belgorod region.

The mayor of Russia's Belgorod city, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced that Moscow had evacuated about 300 residents of the city bordering Ukraine to more distant areas.
