Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko recently announced the largest power system repair operation in modern history, expressing confidence that the country will be able to meet its power generation needs during the coming cold months.
Asked in a television interview whether the country could meet its target of providing 1.7 GW of power generation capacity by the summer, German Galushchenko said the country would make efforts to achieve that goal.
Mr. German Galushchenko said that while he could not provide details right now, the country was adding power in ways that had never been done before. He was very confident that it could ensure reliable supply during the summer and that repairs could be made in time.
Ukraine also aims to have 14.5 million cubic meters of gas in reserve for the upcoming winter season, which begins in October. Ukraine's gas storage facilities are mainly located in the western region and can hold about 30 billion cubic meters.
Ukrainian energy officials have previously said gas consumption has fallen by nearly 40% due to conflict and widespread damage to industrial facilities.
