80 years of building, fighting, winning and growing

Exactly 80 years ago, on October 15, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh signed the Decree establishing 12 military zones across the country, including Military Zone 4 - the predecessor of today's Military Zone 4 Armed Forces. Since that historical milestone, October 15 every year has become the glorious traditional day of the Military Zone Armed Forces. Throughout the revolutionary process, the Military Zone has had names associated with each historical period: Military Zone 4, Inter-zone 4 and Military Zone 4.

During the long resistance war against the French colonialists, the Armed Forces of Military Region 4 promoted the tradition of the homeland's loyalty and steadfastness, together with the people, both resisting and building the nation, both fighting and producing, launching a comprehensive, long-lasting people's war; contributing greatly with the army and people of the whole country to the Dien Bien Phu victory that "resounded throughout the five continents and shook the earth", contributing to the victorious end of our people's resistance war against the French colonialists.

During the great resistance war against the US to save the country, Military Region 4 was the "front line of fire and bullets" of the socialist North, the direct rear of the great front line in the South, simultaneously carrying out "four missions on all three battlefields". This strip of land was the place of direct confrontation between us and the enemy, becoming the fiercest battlefield in the whole country.

With the spirit of "all for the frontline, all to defeat the American invaders", units in the Military Region have focused on consolidating, building, and improving the quality of soldiers and militia, together with the Party committees, authorities, and people of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh provinces, and Vinh Linh area to promote the emulation movement of labor production, combat, and combat service "each person works as much as two" with the slogan "All for the South".

In the fight against the destructive war of the American Empire, the armed forces of Military Region 4, together with the army and people of the North, shot down more than 2,000 American planes, sank many warships, and promptly provided human and material resources to the battlefields to win.

The units of the Military Region have actively and proactively stayed close to the people and the base, coordinated with the units of the Ministry stationed in the area to both build and develop forces, and proactively create many forms of combat, organize many battles to wear down and destroy enemy forces, expand liberated areas, and create a new situation on the battlefield.

Notable achievements include the resounding victories in the Mau Than Spring Campaign 1968, controlling Hue city for 26 days and nights; participating in the Khe Sanh Campaign in 1968, the Route 9-Southern Laos Campaign in 1971; the Spring-Summer Campaign in 1972 to liberate Quang Tri; coordinating in combat, serving in combat to protect Quang Tri Citadel in 1972, contributing to Vietnam's overall victory at the negotiating table at the Paris Conference.

During the resistance war against France and the US, many officers and soldiers of the Military Region's Armed Forces, especially Division 324, Division 968... fulfilled their international obligations well in building revolutionary forces, fighting alliances against enemy invasion and sabotage, building and protecting the new government... Notably, they participated in major campaigns in Central-Lower Laos, Plain of Jars-Xieng Khouang... contributing to the common victory of the revolution of the neighboring country, building and developing the special, loyal and steadfast Vietnam-Laos solidarity relationship.

Today, the Military Region's Armed Forces continued to be awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal by the Party and State for the third time - a noble award, affirming the stature and great contributions of the Military Region's Armed Forces in the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

Delivering the speech at the Commemoration Ceremony, Lieutenant General Ha Tho Binh, Commander of Military Region 4, said: Entering the period of building and defending the Fatherland, under the direct leadership and direction of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, the Armed Forces of Military Region 4 have been proactive, innovative, creative, united, and have excellently fulfilled the functions of the combat army, the working army, and the production labor army, maintaining the core role in building the all-people national defense and people's security posture, especially in key areas and borders. Continuing to perform well the defense diplomacy task in the new situation.

In particular, with the characteristics of a locality that regularly faces and endures many natural disasters, severe storms and floods, with the spirit of "The people are in the front", with "Orders from the heart", officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Military Region 4 have not been afraid of hardships and dangers, ready to sacrifice themselves for the peace and happiness of the people.

With glorious feats of arms and outstanding achievements in the cause of national liberation, construction and protection of the Fatherland, the armed forces of Military Region 4 were honored to receive the following awards from the Party and State: 2 Gold Star Orders, 2 Ho Chi Minh Orders, First and Second Class Independence Orders and many other noble awards.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that we are always proud, remember and grateful for the "land of fire", where the 17th parallel runs through, where there are "ho songs by the Hien Luong wharf", where there are mothers, wives, sisters, and younger sisters who work hard and sacrifice, taking care of cadres and soldiers day and night; fathers and brothers who volunteered to fight the enemy, building the traditional beauty that is also very unique to the "heroic land of fire", where there are heroic soldiers and units that make the enemy "frightened and terrified". Those feats and achievements have become symbols of revolutionary heroism.

Entering the period of building and defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, officers and soldiers of the Military Region's Armed Forces continue to maintain and promote the achievements and feats they have achieved; excellently completing the task of adjusting the organization of the force to be "lean, compact, strong", building the Military Region's armed forces to be politically strong, with comprehensive quality, high combat power, and excellently completing the functions of a combat army, a working army, and a production labor army.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the General Secretary congratulated the great achievements, growth, and glorious tradition of the Military Region 4 Armed Forces over the past 80 years. He congratulated Military Region 4 on receiving the Ho Chi Minh Medal, a noble award from the Party and State.

The General Secretary pointed out that the current situation is posing many major and urgent issues for the entire Party, people and army, including the task of protecting the Fatherland and the task of building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite and modern army for the Army in general and Military Region 4 in particular.
