Helping the poor recover after natural disasters

After two consecutive storms, the small house of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuc and her son (Lan Thanh village, Thach Khe commune) had its roof blown off and was severely damaged. Being a poor household, she and her son had no jobs and were often sick. After the storm, the mother and son could only look at each other helplessly in the midst of devastation.

Thach Khe commune calls for resources to build a house for Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuc's family.

Sharing Mrs. Phuc's situation, the People's Committee of Thach Khe commune contacted the Finance Investment Magazine to mobilize support of 150 million VND to help her rebuild a new house. Along with that, neighbors contributed labor and materials to help the family soon have a solid place to live.

Talking to reporters, Mrs. Phuc emotionally said: “Without the help of the government and kind-hearted people, my children and I would never have been able to rebuild our house. My family is extremely grateful for the care and support, both material and spiritual, during this difficult and unfortunate time!”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuc was happy and touched by the attention of all levels, sectors and the social community.

Joy also came to the family of Mrs. Le Thi Van (Kim Ngoc village, Mai Phu commune) when the family received 20 million VND from Thien Tam Fund - Vingroup Corporation to repair the house damaged by storm No. 10.

Ms. Phuc and Ms. Van are two of thousands of Ha Tinh households affected by the recent storm No. 10 that have received support from all levels, sectors, organizations, and businesses inside and outside the province. In difficult times, Ha Tinh people once again clearly felt the warm affection of their compatriots across the country through timely support, both material and spiritual.

After the flood, Ha Tinh received much attention and support from localities, organizations and individuals across the country.

On October 2, 2025, the Prime Minister signed a decision to support 2,524 billion VND from the central budget reserve for 15 localities to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, of which Ha Tinh received 500 billion VND in support.

At the same time, Vingroup also decided to support 500 billion VND for Ha Tinh and other localities severely affected by storm No. 10. To date, Vingroup has completed transferring 82.6 billion VND to support more than 4,000 households in Ha Tinh.

Through the receiving channel of the Provincial Relief Fund Mobilization Committee, up to now, hundreds of organizations and individuals have supported Ha Tinh to overcome the consequences of storms and floods with a total amount of nearly 103 billion VND. Of which, nearly 79.7 billion VND has been transferred, 23.3 billion VND has been registered for support but has not been transferred. The Mobilization Committee has allocated 81.55 billion VND to localities for timely relief implementation.

These funds are valuable and important resources for localities and people in flood-affected areas to recover after natural disasters.

Mr. Dang The Anh - Vice Chairman of Ky Xuan Commune People's Committee said: "The whole commune has more than 1,700 households whose houses were damaged in storm No. 10. Currently, in addition to the 1.5 billion VND allocated from the Provincial Relief Fund, Ky Xuan residents are also supported with nearly 1.9 billion VND from Thien Tam Fund. The review and allocation of relief resources are being carried out urgently; prioritizing poor, near-poor households, and policy families; ensuring publicity, transparency, no omissions, no overlapping of support beneficiaries, helping people to soon stabilize their lives".

Join hands to create a sustainable life

Not only stopping at post-disaster support, the spirit of "For the poor - leaving no one behind" is also widely spread in daily life through many practical and sustainable social security activities.

Mai Hoa Commune Police give breeding cows to people in difficult circumstances.

Responding to the Peak Month "For the Poor" in 2025 (October 17 - November 17), Mai Hoa Commune Police connected and mobilized benefactors to donate 13 breeding cows worth 200 million VND to poor, near-poor, and extremely disadvantaged households in the area.

Major Pham Viet Tuan - Head of Mai Hoa Commune Police shared: "We chose to support breeding cows instead of other forms because we want to help people have a long-term livelihood. This is not only a material gift, but also a fulcrum for families to start their journey to escape poverty."

In addition to livelihood models, many organizations and unions also focus on implementing programs to care for the material and spiritual lives of the disadvantaged, the elderly, and children in special circumstances such as: sponsoring orphans; awarding scholarships; providing free medical examinations and medicine to the elderly, etc.

In Cam Binh commune, the Women's Union surveyed and recorded that there were 100 orphans in the area, of which 23 were in extremely difficult circumstances. Based on that reality, the association mobilized businesses, agencies, and units to sponsor orphans, creating a foundation for them to study and grow up with peace of mind.

Ms. Phan Thi Van - President of the Commune Women's Union said: "In this period, we have connected and sponsored 9 children with especially difficult circumstances. Hopefully, this companionship will help them have more confidence and determination to rise up in life."

The Provincial Youth Union coordinated to implement a program to examine and provide free medicine for the elderly in difficult circumstances.

The annual "For the Poor" Peak Month activities have become a beautiful tradition, where the spirit of charity and community solidarity is strongly spread (in 2024, the Ha Tinh "For the Poor" Fund mobilized 139 billion VND, promptly supporting thousands of poor and near-poor households to overcome difficulties).

Ms. Ha Thi Viet Anh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee said: "The Provincial Fatherland Front Committee has issued a plan for the Peak Month "For the Poor" in 2025 with many key contents, including prioritizing support for households in areas damaged by storms and floods, remote and isolated areas; mobilizing support for the "For the Poor" Fund at all levels; organizing groundbreaking activities, handing over houses, supporting livelihoods for people... Along with that, continuing to propagate, raise awareness and responsibility of all levels, sectors and the social community, helping the poor stabilize their lives, realizing the goal of not leaving anyone behind".

The journey "For the poor" is still continuing with the cooperation of the entire political system, with the spirit of "mutual love" of the social community, contributing more resources and trust for Ha Tinh to successfully achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction, towards a prosperous and happy life for all people.
