Vietnam - Hungary promote strengthening political trust, expanding bilateral cooperation

At the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Hungarian National Assembly Chairman Kover Laszlo led a high-ranking delegation of the Hungarian National Assembly to pay an official visit to Vietnam from October 18 to 22, 2025. During the visit, on the afternoon of October 20 at the National Assembly House, after the official welcoming ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Hungarian National Assembly Chairman Kover Laszlo held talks.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man warmly welcomed Hungarian National Assembly Chairman Kover Laszlo on his official visit to Vietnam; assessing the visit as having important significance, taking place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950 - 2025), contributing to further strengthening the traditional friendship between the two countries in general and enhancing cooperation on the parliamentary channel in particular.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that the relationship between the two countries has a long history of friendship and cooperation, with Hungary being one of the first 10 countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. The traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries has been cultivated and developed by many generations of leaders and people of the two countries. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that Vietnam always remembers and is grateful for the valuable support that Hungary has given Vietnam in the past struggle for independence and national reunification as well as in the current construction and development; affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to promote the traditional friendship and good multifaceted cooperation with Hungary, Vietnam's first comprehensive partner in Central Eastern Europe.

The President of the Hungarian National Assembly highly appreciated and congratulated Vietnam on the great achievements it has made in the cause of national renewal, development and international integration; expressed his belief that the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam will be a great success, bringing Vietnam into a new era of development, prosperity and wealth. The President of the Hungarian National Assembly assessed that although the two countries are far apart in terms of geography, culture and history, there are few countries with which Hungary has such close relations as with Vietnam; emphasized that the two sides still have much room for cooperation in economics, trade, investment, tourism, education and training.

The Chairman of the Hungarian National Assembly thanked Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, the leaders and people of Vietnam for their warm, friendly and thoughtful welcome to the Hungarian National Assembly delegation; affirmed that in its Eastward foreign policy, Hungary always considers Vietnam as the most important priority partner in the Southeast Asia region and wishes to further deepen the bilateral relationship in all fields.

In a friendly, sincere and open atmosphere, the two sides informed each other about the situation in each country and the activities of the two National Assemblies; highly appreciated the positive developments in the bilateral relationship in recent times, demonstrated through meetings and contacts of high-ranking leaders and all levels, as well as the dynamic development in cooperation between the two National Assemblies with the two sides regularly exchanging delegations of National Assembly leaders, Committees, Friendship Parliamentarians' Groups and closely coordinating at inter-regional and international parliamentary forums, especially the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The two leaders agreed to continue to increase contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people-to-people exchanges to further enhance political trust and mutual understanding, as a foundation to promote and expand bilateral cooperation in all fields.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Hungarian National Assembly Chairman Kover Laszlo agreed to deepen cooperation in areas such as science - technology, education - training, environmental resources, health, culture - tourism, etc.

Discussing the cooperation situation between the two countries' National Assemblies, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man shared some highlights of the 10th Session of the 15th National Assembly which opened on the morning of October 20; emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two National Assemblies in the bilateral relationship.

The two sides agreed to increase the exchange of delegations of high-ranking leaders of the National Assembly, specialized committees and Friendship Parliamentarians' Groups to exchange and share information and experience in the field of parliamentary activities; cooperate in supervising, urging and supporting the Government to effectively implement high-level agreements and commitments; agree on the main theme of the 6th Legislative Workshop between the two National Assemblies, scheduled to take place in the first half of 2026; promote close coordination and mutual support at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums to contribute to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

At the talks, the two sides affirmed the importance of ensuring peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, and resolving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man thanked and asked the National Assembly and authorities at all levels of Hungary to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Hungary to integrate and stabilize their lives.

After the talks, Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly Kover Laszlo and the delegation attended the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly.

On the same afternoon, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man solemnly hosted Chairman of the Hungarian National Assembly Kover Laszlo and a high-ranking delegation of the Hungarian National Assembly.
