Joy and sorrow of grassroots reporters

(GLO)- For the team of reporters at the grassroots level - those who are working at cultural, information and sports centers (VH-TT-TT), exploiting information, taking photos, filming, writing news articles, editing images, reading radio... are daily routines.

With their love for the profession, they become a bridge to convey the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws to the people and contribute to creating colorful pictures of life.

Multi-talented journalists

With 15 years of experience in the profession, reporter Nguyen Hien (Cultural, Information and Communication Center of Dak Po district) is considered to have deep expertise and enthusiasm for her work. From radio news, television reports to her works submitted to Gia Lai Newspaper, she is always concise, succinct, and truly reflects the lives of local people.

During his career, reporter Nguyen Hien has made his mark with many provincial and national press awards. Notably, he received the encouragement prize in the radio category of the National Press Award on Party Building (Golden Hammer and Sickle Award) in 2022 with the work "Prestige does not wait for age".

Due to the nature of their work, most grassroots reporters strive to study, improve their professional skills, and equip themselves with knowledge and modern technology. They actively stay close to the grassroots to seek fresh sources of information, ensuring timeliness; and at the same time, promptly reflect the thoughts and aspirations of the people to the local government.

In the “fire pan” region of Krong Pa, reporter Quang Ngoc has been working in the profession for nearly 20 years. Originally a generator operator, he has had a chance to get involved in journalism through handwritten news, old cameras, and audio cassette tapes…

Reporter Quang Ngoc shared: “During my time working at the Krong Pa District Radio and Television Station (now the District Cultural, Information and Communication Center), I experienced many happy and sad stories while working in remote areas, especially the independent reporting incident in 2011 when Bung Bridge (Phu Can Commune) was swept away by flood. That afternoon, I suddenly received a phone call from a resident reporting that Bung Bridge had collapsed. I quickly went to the office to get my camera and ran to the scene.

Standing on the shore, I couldn’t get the desired image, so I decided to go to the location of the broken bridge to work. As I looked at the lens to focus, I saw both me and the camera shaking. After recording a few seconds of the image, I saw it shaking even more. Looking back, I saw the entire bridge shaking so much that I had to run straight to the bridgehead.

Reporter Nguyen Sang (Cultural, Information and Communication Center of Ayun Pa town) confided: “Journalism is hard, television is even harder, especially for grassroots reporters who have to do almost every step, from information mining, script writing to filming, interviewing, writing articles, editing, and even reading commentary. However, like any job, if you truly love the job and are passionate about it, you will find joy.”

Quietly keep the "fire of the profession"

Local journalists are always present at all local events. During holidays and Tet, when people are resting and having fun, reporters are busier than ever. Because not only do they make local broadcast programs, they also collaborate with Gia Lai Newspaper to bring timely information to readers. And even though they work as journalists, they are not granted press cards. This is something that makes many people feel sad.

In reality, the team of reporters at the grassroots level still quietly keeps the "fire of the profession", diligently searching, discovering and producing quality news and articles. Reporter Nguyen Hien shared: "The value of a journalist does not lie in the card, but in the works they create." Nguyen Sang also agreed with that view: "The press card is a useful tool, but it does not determine whether you live up to your profession or not. Every journalist needs to make an effort and maintain professional ethics."

As a journalist in Krong Pa for many years, reporter Quang Ngoc could not hide his worries when the time to work at the district level was no longer available. For him, the job could change, the unit could merge, but journalism was ingrained in his blood and flesh, so it was not easy to let go.

“Every incident, every close call is a motivation for me to try harder to create works that are imbued with the breath of life in the fiery pan of Krong Pa,” Ngoc said.
