Chinese news site MyDrivers has just reported that Xiaomi has successfully completed the SoC design for Smartphone with China's first 3nm process.

Chip design completion essentially means that the chip has reached the final stage before being sent to the factory to begin trial production. Or in other words, Xiaomi has completed the design stage and is ready to prepare for production.

However, it is not certain that Xiaomi's SoC is ready for mass production and equipping smartphones immediately. Xiaomi still needs to re-test and the company may need to adjust the production process or redesign if the initial production rate is low.

The report doesn't provide details about the CPU or GPU, only mentioning that the chip is built on a 3nm process. It also doesn't specify whether Xiaomi will use a manufacturing process from TSMC, Samsung, or another manufacturer.

This is not the first time Xiaomi has made its own chips. The company has previously launched a smartphone with its own SoC - the Xiaomi Mi 5C launched in 2017 (equipped with the company's own Surge S1 chip). The Surge S1 chip is an 8-core processor with big-litter architecture, manufactured on a 28nm process and has a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz.

Although the company has not launched any more SoCs for smartphones since then, they are still developing chips for battery management, charging, and image signal processing.
