Huawei surprised many people when it launched the Mate XT, the world's first tri-fold screen smartphone, on September 10.
The product has a 6.4-inch external screen for use as a regular bar-shaped smartphone and can be expanded to a maximum 10-inch screen, equivalent to a large tablet.
The Mate XT was launched in a smartphone market that has become saturated in both features and design. Even foldable smartphones are gradually falling into a rut with similar designs.
Huawei's triple-folding smartphone is expected to make a difference and be a boost to open a new smartphone segment in the market. Right after the Mate XT was introduced, many other technology companies were also ready to launch their own triple-folding smartphone models. Xiaomi is one of them.
Technology site SmartPrix quoted sources close to Xiaomi as saying that the Chinese technology company is ready to launch not just one but two different triple-folding screen smartphones in the near future.
Information about Xiaomi's tri-fold screen smartphone appeared on a Chinese product information declaration website (Photo: SmartPrix).
Xiaomi's first product will be called Zhuque, expected to launch in early 2025. Besides the highlight of the tri-fold screen design, Zhuque also stands out thanks to not being equipped with any physical buttons, making the product Xiaomi's first buttonless smartphone.
Zhuque is not only Xiaomi's pioneering tri-fold screen smartphone, but is also considered a foundation product for Xiaomi to continue launching other tri-fold screen smartphones.
In addition to Zhuque, Xiaomi is also developing another tri-folding smartphone, but the product has no name yet and is codenamed "26013VP46C". This smartphone is likely to be introduced by Xiaomi in late 2025 or early 2026.
However, SmartPrix's source said that Xiaomi could bring Zhuque to the international market, while the smartphone model with the code name "26013VP46C" will only be a product exclusively for the Chinese market.
Xiaomi's tri-folding smartphone models are still in development and not yet complete. Xiaomi will likely rely on the market's reaction to Huawei's Mate XT smartphone to decide whether to commercialize its products or not.
Huawei's Mate XT smartphone has created a "fever" in the Chinese market, when the first batch of products sold was sold out in just a few seconds. Huawei said the number of Mate XT pre-orders has reached millions, making it take the company more time to meet all of these orders.
