5 missiles targeted US base in Syria

On April 21, regional media quoted Iraqi security sources as saying that five missiles were launched that evening from Iraq towards a US military base in Syria.

Reuters quoted an anonymous source from local police as saying that the attack occurred when unidentified gunmen launched a rocket from an Iraqi village near the town of Zummar, northwest of Mosul, the capital of Nineveh province, toward northeastern Syria.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that an attack plot targeting a US airbase at Kharab al-Jir airport, north of al-Hasakah province, northeastern Syria, had failed.

According to SOHR, US ground defense forces intercepted and shot down the drones before they approached the base.

Following the drone attack, armed militants launched missiles at the Kharab al-Jir base. US ground defense forces continued to intercept these missiles and there were no casualties at the base for US forces.

SOHR said armed groups based in Iraq were behind the attacks.

Meanwhile, US forces in the region have not commented on this information.
