In addition, there are about 200 cruise ships transporting tourists during the day. The quality of cruise ships in Ha Long Bay is considered the most modern in Vietnam among the inland waterway system.

Essence Grand 1 - the largest sightseeing cruise ship in Ha Long Bay

To meet the increasing demand of domestic and international tourists and improve the quality of service, in recent times, cruise ships on Ha Long Bay have undergone a dramatic change. Many giant cruise ships have been built as floating hotels, bringing tourists an exciting and safe journey to explore the world's natural heritage.

Recently, in early October, Essence Grand 1 - the largest cruise ship on Ha Long Bay of Viet Thuan Group was officially launched. This is the cruise ship in a pair of "twin" cruise ships with a total investment of about 35 million USD of Viet Thuan Group. It is expected that in a few months, Essence Grand 2 cruise ship will be launched on Ha Long Bay.

The two superyachts are both up to 109.9 m long, equal to the standard length of a football field according to the regulations of the International Football Federation (FIFA), 18.68 m wide. The design includes 1 basement, 6 upper floors, each floor area is more than 2,000 m ² . The yacht has a scale of 55 luxury rooms and amenities, with a capacity of 160 overnight guests and 320 visitors. Each room on this pair of yachts is focused on, taking care of every detail. The area of ​​the room is from 33 - 100 m ² , equivalent to, or even larger than, hotel rooms on land.

Essence Grand 1 cruise ship stands tall like a mountain

Previously, in early October, at Tuan Chau International Passenger Port (Ha Long City, Quang Ninh), Halo Eco Group Joint Stock Company held the opening ceremony of the 6-star super yacht Catherine, 90 m long, 15 m wide, and accommodating 117 overnight passengers. Currently, the yacht has 39 luxury rooms with room area of ​​40 - 200 m ² ; 2 luxury restaurants.

The addition of many super luxury yachts has also caused the experience services on Ha Long Bay to "bloom". A typical example is the tour to explore Ha Long Bay in the evening by restaurant yacht. When participating in this unique tour program, visitors can enjoy delicious seafood dishes "made in Ha Long" and also experience special art and music exchange programs.

Notably, in addition to providing sightseeing services in Ha Long Bay, super yachts also provide rooms for lunch breaks instead of tourists having to "sleep" on simple chairs like before.

The fleet of tourist boats on Ha Long Bay is increasing in size.

Reduce the number of ships, improve the quality

According to the Quang Ninh Department of Transport, the number of ships serving tourists in Ha Long Bay is currently decreasing, but the quality is improving. Small ships carrying few passengers are decreasing, being replaced by larger, high-quality ships that are being put into operation more often.

A representative of the Department of Transport of Quang Ninh province said that according to Document 3916/UBND-XD2 dated June 15, 2020 of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province on the replacement of tourist ships, for sightseeing ships, 1 wooden-hulled ship will be replaced with 1 steel-hulled ship or with equivalent materials.

Evening cruise experience programs become a new product attracting tourists when coming to Ha Long.

For accommodation ships, one wooden-hulled ship will be replaced by one steel-hulled ship or ship of equivalent material, without increasing the number of beds; it is encouraged to replace two small-tonnage ships with one steel-hulled ship or ship of equivalent material, with a larger tonnage, with the number of beds of the newly built ship equal to the total number of beds of the replaced ships and not more than 30% of the number of beds added.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Hau, Deputy Head of Ha Long Bay Management Board, said that although the number of ships has decreased, with the current alternative construction plan, the capacity of the Ha Long Bay tourist fleet is still maintained and the quality of the fleet is increasingly improved.

The new Catharine cruise ship was put into operation in early October, departing from Tuan Chau International Passenger Port, standing out in the middle of Ha Long Bay.

The reduction in the number of ships is also aimed at reducing the load on Ha Long Bay, especially in the core areas of the world natural heritage. A typical example is the twin cruise ships Essence Grand 1 - 2. The above-mentioned cruise ships were built to replace 8 overnight cruises on Ha Long Bay, because Quang Ninh planned not to add more ships, but only to replace old ships.

Along with the appearance of many large cruise ships, the authorities of Quang Ninh province also increased the management of these oversized ships. Because large ships cannot dock at tourist attractions, they have to be transferred across the bay.
