Increase student intake

Statistics show that currently, in the province, there are Da Lat University, Yersin University, Phan Thiet University, Da Lat College, Da Lat Tourism College and Binh Thuan College providing training in tourism. Currently, training institutions continue to invest in facilities and equipment, promote the application of advanced science and technology to improve teaching quality, build new and expand tourism training majors, proactively cooperate and link to train high-quality human resources.

At Dalat University, the Faculty of Tourism was established and organized training since 2002. This is one of the first three formal tourism vocational training institutions in the system of public training institutions in Southern Vietnam. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Anh - Head of the Faculty of Tourism, Dalat University said that the whole faculty currently has more than 1,200 students following postgraduate, undergraduate, and work-study programs. Of which, there are 302 new students/4 classes with 2 main majors: hotel restaurants and travel, an increase of 1 class compared to the previous school year. According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Anh, the training program of the unit has been constantly changing according to the plan for each stage and each year to keep up with the trends as well as the needs of students and businesses.

“Tourism is still one of the attractive majors, students have many opportunities and job options after graduation. In the context of the tourism industry recovering and having impressive development, the space and room for the tourism industry is also an opportunity to attract human resources for tourism, especially high-quality human resources”, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Anh added.

At Phan Thiet University, the number of incoming students of the Faculty of Tourism has also increased sharply. This year, the Faculty of Tourism welcomed 203 new students, an increase of 57% and is the faculty with the largest number of students in the school. Dr. La Nu Anh Van - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Tourism said that currently, the training program of the faculty has been assessed and recognized as meeting the training quality standards according to the latest standards and criteria as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training. Over the years, the unit has continued to affirm itself as one of the human resource training facilities in the tourism industry that is highly appreciated by businesses and "ordered" while students are still in school.

Opportunities and challenges

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Lam Dong currently has 126 travel agencies, including 58 international travel agencies. The tourism industry has 1,059 tour guides, including 438 international tour guides, 314 domestic tour guides, and 301 on-site tour guides.

The province currently has 4,217 tourist accommodation establishments with 66,185 rooms, including 110 3-5 star hotels; 99 tourist areas, spots, and attractions. In addition, the province has 144 relics, including 3 special national relics, 59 national relics, and 82 provincial relics. All of these create a huge potential for natural and cultural tourism.

“I just had a journey - 3 experiences with the tourism industry in 3 areas, I think that the tourism of the new province is extremely diverse, rich and has a lot of room to exploit. Da Lat and Phan Thiet are already 2 famous tourist centers for flowers and sea, so when they "unite" as one, the development conditions will be very good”, Dr. La Nu Anh Van shared. According to Dr. Van, this is an opportunity for students not only majoring in tourism but also in many other professions. However, at the same time, it is a challenge, requiring units to constantly innovate and improve the quality of training to meet the demand for quality human resources from businesses.

According to Dr. Van, tourism is an industry with a fast pace of international integration, so competition is also very high, not only domestically but also internationally. Competition in tourism quality is competition in terms of human resources. The strength or weakness of a business depends largely on its workers. However, in addition to the task of training, the requirements for workers in the tourism industry are to constantly improve their expertise, master many skills, and constantly update modern and smart tourism trends...

“To develop tourism human resources to meet development requirements, it is necessary to strengthen state management of tourism human resource development through forecasting tourism human resource needs, building and implementing tourism human resource development policies,” said Dr. Van.
