Investing in transport infrastructure to drive the economy

One of the biggest "bottlenecks" of Lam Dong today, according to experts, is that the traffic infrastructure does not meet development requirements.

3 big challenges

In fact, Lam Dong 's transportation system is currently facing three major challenges: limited connectivity, overloading, and narrow roads. Looking at the main roads connecting the three major urban areas of Gia Nghia, Da Lat, and Phan Thiet, it is clear that the transportation network is not yet effectively connected, causing difficulties for the circulation of goods and travel of people. Currently, traffic connecting the three highland and coastal areas through the main national highways: 28, 55, and 28B has not been upgraded or expanded yet.

Traffic connecting rural areas with urban areas, or to national highways and expressways is still very limited. Many major roads have seriously degraded, unable to meet the increasing transportation demand. These limitations also significantly affect the investment attraction, the ability to exploit tourism potential and develop agriculture and industry of the province, hindering socio -economic development.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Minh, a lawyer, shared: “After the merger, a large province like Lam Dong has very poor traffic infrastructure. That is the biggest bottleneck hindering development.” Mr. Minh said that traffic infrastructure is very important in contributing to improving the investment environment, enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of the economy, creating conditions to attract investment capital to develop infrastructure, especially attracting foreign investment capital and using that capital to build traffic infrastructure, creating conditions for physical production industries to operate more effectively, thereby also contributing to solving the employment problem.

Rendezvous 2025 - 2030

Not only manufacturing industries, but also the "smokeless" industry - tourism will also develop more strongly when the transportation system is complete, convenient and connects regions, areas in the province and the whole country. Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet and Dau Giay - Phan Thiet Expressways, after being put into operation, have brought about extremely large changes in tourism and investment attraction in the Southeast of the province, which is the most vivid and clear proof.

Clearly identifying the importance of transport infrastructure for development, Lam Dong province has also determined and identified transport infrastructure investment as a top priority. The medium-term public investment period 2025 - 2030 is considered the "meeting point" of many key infrastructure projects, promising to bring new breakthroughs to the province's transport system.

A series of important projects have been and are being planned for implementation, promising to create new momentum for the province's development in the coming period such as: Tan Phu - Bao Loc expressway; Bao Loc - Lien Khuong expressway; Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh expressway, upgrading National Highway 28B, expanding and upgrading National Highway 28 connecting Gia Nghia with Di Linh, upgrading National Highway 27, investing in belt roads connecting wards and communes, upgrading and expanding many roads in urban areas; investing in coastal roads; high-speed railway project... When completed, these traffic routes will open up great opportunities for tourism development, trade and investment attraction.

In addition, the province also sets goals and plans, and allocates significant resources to invest in roads connecting remote areas in the province, creating conditions for people to access public services and opportunities for economic development and poverty reduction.

In the coming period of 2026 - 2030, Lien Khuong Airport will also be invested in upgrading, expanding and completing; Phan Thiet Airport is also gradually being completed and put into use, creating favorable conditions for attracting tourists and investors, promoting the development of the tourism and service industries.

Former Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Bao also gave his opinion at a provincial conference that: "The issue of prioritizing investment in transportation needs to be given attention and placed first, from which we can pave the way and be the driving force for growth, attract and lead investors, contributing to socio-economic development."

Creating development momentum

Transport infrastructure development is considered to play a pivotal role and be the "backbone" for the development of infrastructure in general, positively impacting every corner of the socio-economic sector. To achieve the double-digit growth targets and aim to build Lam Dong into a fairly developed province, one of the dynamic growth poles of the region in the era of national development, the province has been implementing a series of synchronous solutions, focusing on mobilizing and effectively using resources. In particular, the province is reviewing and adjusting the transport infrastructure planning, ensuring consistency with the socio-economic development planning of the province, creating synchronization and efficiency in the coming period.

The Department of Finance said that the total medium-term public investment plan for the 2026 - 2030 period (excluding national target programs) is expected to be 135,138 billion VND; of which, the central budget support source is 78,512.5 billion VND and the local budget source is 56,625.2 billion VND. In addition to the budget source, the province also aims to mobilize maximum socialized capital sources and ODA capital to invest in developing transport infrastructure. In addition, it focuses on regular maintenance to ensure the longevity and efficiency of transport works.

Lam Dong is making efforts to “untie” the transport infrastructure, creating momentum for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development, aiming to turn opportunities, resources and advantages into specific development results. In the vision to 2030, the province has identified investment in developing transport infrastructure as one of the important strategic breakthroughs, prioritizing the selection of key projects with breakthrough characteristics to implement investment, creating a driving force for the entire economy.
