The statement stated: "Australia sends its deepest condolences to the people of Vietnam at this difficult time. As a trusted partner, Australia will work closely with the Government of Vietnam in providing this assistance."

According to the statement, Australia's assistance will include emergency relief items such as kitchen kits, hygiene kits and rescue kits. Australia will also activate the Australian Humanitarian Partnership program to support Australian NGOs to provide life-saving assistance. This support will also be provided through United Nations (UN) agencies.

The statement quoted Foreign Minister Penny Wong as saying: "We understand that the road to recovery will take time. As a long-standing friend and partner, Australia stands with Vietnam during this difficult time. Australia will continue to work with Vietnam on emergency relief efforts and building resilience after natural disasters."

Meanwhile, Australia’s Minister for International Development Anne Aly said: “We extend our deepest condolences to the families and communities affected by the recent devastating storms. Australia and Vietnam are working together to ensure the most vulnerable families and people – including women, children and people with disabilities – receive life-saving assistance.”
