Map of Vietnam made from toothpicks sets world record

The Vietnam Map Model, made by nearly 12,000 participants with more than 115,000 bamboo toothpicks by architect Hoang Tuan Long, set a Vietnamese record and a world record.

On the evening of December 2 in Ho Chi Minh City, architect - record holder Hoang Tuan Long received a certificate of Vietnam record and world record for the "Map of Vietnam" model made of bamboo toothpicks.

Architect Hoang Tuan Long was recognized by the Vietnam Records Organization (VietKings) as a Vietnamese record holder for the "Vietnam Map Model made of bamboo toothpicks with the most participants across the three regions of North - Central - South". Also with this Vietnam Map model, Hoang Tuan Long was awarded a world record by the World Records Union for the "Author of the Vietnam Map - The work made of bamboo toothpicks with the largest number of participants in the world". Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , Hoang Tuan Long said that the Vietnam Map model was made in eight months with the participation of 11,898 people. In April 2023, the male architect launched the project to make a Vietnam Map made of bamboo toothpicks in Ho Chi Minh City. After that, he brought this model to 10 different locations in four provinces and cities including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Thua Thien Hue and Vinh Phuc . On this journey, nearly 12,000 people participated in planting more than 115,000 bamboo toothpicks to complete the model. The map of Vietnam has a size of 1.8 x 2.8m, made from bamboo toothpicks and some materials available in Vietnam combined with laser technology.

Auction of Vietnam Map model to raise funds for orphans

Mr. Hoang Tuan Long said that in the near future, the Vietnam Map model will be displayed at BoArc Gallery (6 Thi Sach, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) or at museums. After that, he authorized the Vietnam Record Organization to auction this model and use the auction proceeds to help about 20 orphans living at Quan Am Pagoda (Long Thanh, Dong Nai ) and orphans in other localities.

"The orphans are the motivation for me to carry out community projects, including the Vietnam Map model," said Hoang Tuan Long. He said that he plans to carry out two large-scale works in the near future, including the Thang Long Imperial Citadel (0.8 x 2m) and the World Map (about 2.5 x 5m). He will also continue to call on everyone to join hands to carry out the Vietnam Map model.
Previously, on August 27, 2022, architect Hoang Tuan Long was recognized as a Vietnamese record and an Asian record with the work Mandala Universe. This artwork with 379 Sanskrit words of the Great Compassion Mantra made of bamboo toothpicks, was created by the most people in Vietnam (379 people).

The work measures 1.4 x 1.4m with 27,000 bamboo sticks, and took three months to complete.

In 2020, architect Hoang Tuan Long was recognized by the World Records Union (WorldKings) as the person who made the most models from bamboo and mica.
