This is a favorable time, an opportunity and prospect for cooperation in high technology, digital technology, and innovation between the two sides: Austria is a center of source technology and core technology in Europe, especially in the ecosystem of German-speaking countries, while Vietnam is a dynamic economy that wants to develop based on science and technology, becoming a center of digital technology and innovation in the ASEAN region. Vietnam is one of the few countries that has an FTA with the EU, and is the country with the largest import-export turnover to Austria among ASEAN countries. The Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has been implemented for 5 years. The Vietnamese Government hopes that the Austrian Government will soon submit to the Austrian Parliament for ratification of the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to further facilitate investors from both sides.

Austria is also a country that provides preferential ODA credit to Vietnam, funding Vietnam in three main areas: railways, health care and education. On June 23, 2025, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi and Ms. Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, State Secretary of the Austrian Ministry of Finance signed a Framework Agreement on Financial Cooperation worth 150 million Euros, of which 100 million Euros is a conditional loan and 50 million Euros is unconditional. The Government and government agencies of both sides always give priority to creating conditions for Austrian and Vietnamese companies to propose and implement projects using this financial source.
In the future, the two sides need to continue to enhance strategic relations in the field of high technology and innovation, especially promoting the meeting of the Vietnam - Austria Joint Committee, the 11th session of which is expected to be held in Vietnam in 2026, chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (now the Ministry of Finance) and the Ministry of Economics, Energy and Tourism of Austria.
