New Zealand companies donate 7 tons of fruit and 1,000 liters of milk to disadvantaged children in Vietnam

(Dan Sinh) - New Zealand Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam, Ms. Tredene Dobson affirmed: The New Zealand Embassy is willing to continue supporting New Zealand fruit and milk export companies, benefactors who provide nutritious and fresh products to help Vietnamese children and women in difficult circumstances.

On the afternoon of July 6, New Zealand Consul General-designate and Commercial Counselor in Vietnam Scott James, on behalf of 10 New Zealand fruit and dairy product exporting companies, presented 7 tons of fruit (more than 350 boxes) and 1,000 liters of milk to 4 charities for children and women in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi , including Operation Smile in Ho Chi Minh City, Vinacapital Foundation, Blue Dragon, and Maison Chance. This year is the first year the program has had the participation of leading New Zealand dairy companies, donating milk in addition to the annual fruit gifts.

New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms. Tredene Dobson, shared: “I am pleased to see that what started as an idea to support the Vietnamese people during the COVID-19 pandemic has developed into an annual program that benefits the community, especially those less fortunate. The New Zealand Embassy is pleased to continue supporting New Zealand fruit and dairy exporters who are generously providing nutritious and fresh products to help disadvantaged Vietnamese children and women. This small gesture demonstrates our care and commitment to improving the health of the Vietnamese people.”

New Zealand Consul General and Trade Counsellor, Mr. Scott James commented: “This is a meaningful activity. Over the past three years, through this program, New Zealand businesses have had the opportunity to share their quality products with disadvantaged people in Vietnam. New Zealand companies are pleased to join hands to help the Vietnamese people and together make life better.”

2023 marks the third consecutive year that New Zealand fruit exporters have donated New Zealand fruit in Vietnam. The programme has expanded since its inaugural year in 2021, when New Zealand companies donated New Zealand apples and kiwifruit to doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and patients at eight hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City during the lockdown and social distancing period, in conjunction with the 'Be Strong Vietnam' campaign launched by the Living Foundation and the New Zealand Embassy in Hanoi.

By 2022, seven New Zealand fruit exporters had donated 10,000 kg of fruit to five children’s and women’s charities in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. This year was the first year the program involved leading New Zealand dairy companies, donating milk in addition to their annual fruit donations.
