Following the Prime Minister's direction, in December, the first items of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project, including the connecting road and the station square, will begin construction, opening a new beginning for this strategic project.
Currently, preparations for key railway projects such as international intermodal railways and high-speed railways are being accelerated to soon complete the infrastructure of the "backbone" transport industry, contributing to promoting high economic growth in the coming time.
5 stations in 5 localities where the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line passes through are expected to be started simultaneously in December. Currently, the Ministry of Construction is implementing investment preparation work, detailed design of connecting roads, station squares of these stations; at the same time, it is also implementing negotiations to sign the Rail Connection Agreement in the Lao Cai area - an important step for this railway line to connect smoothly with the international railway system, completely solving the limitations on goods trade when our current railway gauge is narrower than that of China.
The Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway will help transport goods from the Hai Phong seaport area and intermodal stations located deep in Vietnam to the world, with low logistics costs, increasing the competitiveness of our goods. The key North - South high-speed railway project will open up new development space across the country. Currently, many localities are focusing on site clearance to ensure that the project can start before December 31 of next year according to the Government's direction.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Thinh - Deputy Director of Vietnam Railways Department, Ministry of Construction said: "The goal by 2030 is to invest in building 9 new railway lines with a total length of about 2,400km, focusing mainly on high-speed railway lines on the North - South axis".
"We must prepare promptly and thoroughly to take over the management, operation, exploitation and maintenance of new railway lines when assigned the task," said Mr. Dang Sy Manh - Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam Railway Corporation.
The Law on Railways (amended) was passed by the National Assembly in June this year with 23 specific policies that will create a legal corridor to clear bottlenecks in capital mobilization, tax incentives, as well as shorten procedures for implementing modern, synchronous new-generation railway projects, opening up opportunities for the "backbone" transport sector to develop dramatically, becoming a lever for socio-economic development.
