Hydropower plants on Lo River do not generate electricity, flood control

Before the warning of the impact of storm No. 11 (Matmo) causing heavy rain in the province with rainfall from 150mm - 250mm, in some places over 300mm and the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, from the morning of October 7 until now, the Lo 2 and Lo 4 Hydropower Plants - 2 hydropower plants that affect flood regulation in Ha Giang city area, communes of Vi Xuyen and Bac Quang districts (formerly) have not generated electricity, opened all the discharge gates (clearance) to bring the Lo River back to its natural flow to minimize local flooding in low-lying areas when floodwaters from upstream come.

Lo 2 Hydropower Plant opens the spillway gates, returning the river to its natural flow, reducing localized flooding in upstream areas.

According to information from the Song Lo 2 Hydropower Plant, the current flood flow through the Plant is about 2,000m3/s. The amount of water flowing in is showing signs of decreasing. It is forecasted that by the end of October 8, flood water from upstream will decrease significantly, and low-lying areas in Ha Giang 1 and Ha Giang 2 wards will no longer be in a state of localized flooding.

Hydropower plants in the province annually contribute positively to the provincial budget revenue. In addition to production and business activities, hydropower plants, especially the cascade hydropower system on Mien River and Lo River, always strictly implement the direction of the Provincial People's Committee on flood regulation, minimizing the impact and damage caused by floods in the catchment and downstream areas, especially during the recent storms No. 10 and 11. There is no situation where hydropower plants retain water for electricity generation, affecting flood drainage and discharge as some information spread on social networks, causing panic among the people.
