According to the Canadian Prime Minister's Office, the above event will be an opportunity for Ottawa to reaffirm its commitment to security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic region.

Prime Minister Trudeau and NATO allies will join Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, which will focus on increasing support for Kiev.

Mr. Trudeau is expected to emphasize the importance of continued military , financial and humanitarian support for Ukraine, and reaffirm Canada's commitment to strengthening defense priorities and security partnerships.

The Canadian leader will also highlight Ottawa's contributions to NATO's collective defense efforts in Europe, including Operation REASSURANCE - the North American nation's most active overseas military deployment with 1,500 troops.

Canada has been commanding NATO's Multinational Task Group, soon to be a Brigade, in Latvia since 2017. Ottawa also deployed the warship Charlottetown to assume the duties of NATO's Standing Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) as part of Operation REASSURANCE in the Mediterranean.

The Royal Canadian Navy's presence as part of SNMG2 demonstrates Ottawa's continued engagement in NATO, as well as enhanced military cooperation with allies and partners in the region.
