Strong move
On the afternoon of May 13, 2025, at Lach Huyen port area, President Luong Cuong and central and city leaders pressed the button to inaugurate Wharfs No. 3 and No. 4. From that time on, 6 wharves of Lach Huyen port area were put into synchronous operation. These are all wharves with great depth, modern loading and unloading equipment, capable of receiving the world's largest container ships.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company Pham Hong Minh proudly said: "The inauguration of berths 3 and 4 not only affirms the position, capacity and aspiration to rise and go out to the sea of Hai Phong Port. This is also an event that marks a strong transformation of the Hai Phong seaport system, from the role of a regional transit port to an international maritime center."
It can be said that never before has Hai Phong seaport and logistics activities faced such a golden opportunity for breakthrough development as they do now. Mr. Pham Quoc Long, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Maritime Agents, Brokers and Services, assessed: In the past 5 years, the volume of goods passing through the Hai Phong seaport area has grown at double-digit rates. Many new ports have been established and are constantly being invested, upgraded and modernized. For Hai Phong, the seaport is not only a gateway for the export and import of goods but also a "magnet" attracting investment capital from all over the world.
Most recently, the UK's Lloyd's List magazine published a ranking of the 100 container ports with the largest cargo throughput in the world by 2025. Notably, Vietnam has 3 seaports on this list: Ho Chi Minh City Seaport, Hai Phong Seaport and Cai Mep Seaport.
Of which, Hai Phong Seaport ranked 29th in the top 100 with cargo throughput reaching approximately 7.1 million TEUs, and ranked second among the three seaports in Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City Seaport (ranked 22nd in the world, capacity approximately 9.1 million TEUs).

According to information from the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, Hai Phong seaport currently has 56 wharves with a wharf length of 17 km, stretching from Cam River, Vat Cach, Dinh Vu, Nam Dinh Vu to Lach Huyen. This number certainly has not stopped when recently the next wharves at Lach Huyen port area (from wharves No. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12) were requested by the city leaders to speed up the implementation progress, striving to start construction in the second quarter of 2026.
And to anticipate the development trend, the Nam Do Son Port project with a total investment capital of up to 5 billion USD will be invested to become a large-scale international transit port, affirming the ambition to turn Hai Phong into a leading regional maritime center, which will be launched early next year.
Along with the development of the seaport system, logistics activities in the city are bustling. The city currently has 250 registered enterprises providing logistics services with more than 170,000 employees, along with 60 main warehouses with a total area of about 701 hectares. Of which, there are 2 large-scale logistics centers in operation: Green Logistics Center and Yusen Logistics Center. 2 centers under construction include: Hai Phong CDC Gateway Port Logistics and Trade Services Center and Logistics Center in Hai Phong International Gateway Port Industrial Park (Deep C3).
Hai Phong is a locality with a vibrant logistics service development speed, reaching a growth rate of 20 to 23% per year, the proportion of logistics services contributing to the city's GRDP reaching 13 - 15%.
Strategic intersection, corridor convergence
Mr. Tran Tien Dung, Vice President of Hai Phong City Business Association, said: with the position of one of the largest seaports in the country, Hai Phong seaport today with a new stature is not only the main gateway to the sea of the northern provinces and cities but also becomes a "strategic intersection", the convergence of the most important economic corridors in Northern Vietnam. This position is firmly consolidated when Hai Phong is the seaward end of the Kunming - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh economic corridor, an important link in the cooperation framework of "Two corridors, one economic belt".
