Maritime and logistics development
The maritime economy of Da Nang city (old) with a focus on seaport exploitation services has achieved strong development in recent times with 3 wharf areas: Tien Sa, Song Han, and Lien Chieu.
With the goal of promoting the development of the marine economy, Da Nang city upgraded Tien Sa port area, especially building a new Lien Chieu port with a capital of about 5,000 billion VND, with an expected capacity of 8.5 million tons/year. This investment is suitable for practical requirements, when Da Nang port can establish maritime routes to domestic, regional and world regions.
The Action Program on Sustainable Development of the Marine Economy of Da Nang City to 2030, with a vision to 2045, aims to build Da Nang into a major marine economic center of the country and an international marine city. On that basis, along with focusing on investment, strongly developing marine economic sectors, ensuring social security and environmental protection.
Da Nang City has proactively adapted to climate change and rising sea levels; prevented pollution, degradation of the marine environment, coastal landslides and sea erosion. Socio-economic development activities related to the city's sea and islands are carried out according to the principle of integrated management appropriate to the marine ecosystem.

In Quang Nam province (old), Truong Hai Group Corporation (THACO) has invested and put into operation Chu Lai port. From Chu Lai port, THACO connects to Nam Giang international border gate, connecting the Northeast region of Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia to import and export goods. THACO has established Truong Hai International Transport and Logistics Company Limited (THILOGI) as a corporation organizing and providing full-package transport and delivery services, providing logistics solutions.
Imported goods are auto parts, agricultural and forestry products, iron ore, bauxite; exported goods are products manufactured by THACO and by enterprises in industrial parks in Quang Nam (old) and Quang Ngai (old) provinces. Annually, the total volume of imported goods through Chu Lai port is about 1.73 million tons, exported goods are about 1.29 million tons.
The seaport and logistics group has recently been focused on development by the old Quang Nam province. Quang Nam seaport is planned as a class I seaport, with a total waterfront length of 9,300m, including 4 wharf areas.
The People's Committee of Quang Nam province (old) has coordinated with ministries and branches to carry out research, survey, and propose detailed planning for the land and seaport area of Quang Nam. Up to now, the Ministry of Construction has approved the detailed planning for the development of the land and seaport area of Quang Nam in Decision No. 310/QD-BXD dated March 25, 2025 as a basis for implementing the investment project.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Quang, Head of the Management Board of Quang Nam Economic Zones and Industrial Parks, said that the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province (old) has agreed in principle to allow Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company (THACO) to study the pre-feasibility report of the dredging project of the 50,000-ton channel combined with the investment proposal of the Tam Hiep 50,000-ton port area, a duty-free zone associated with Tam Hoa port according to the planning.
After detailed planning for the development of land and seaport areas in Quang Nam, Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Joint Stock Company proposed an investment project to build Cua Lo channel; a bridge connecting Tam Hiep and Tam Hoa wharf areas under the form of a build-transfer contract (BT contract).
Diversified marine economy
Realizing Resolution 26-NQ/TW dated November 3, 2022 of the Politburo on "Socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the North Central and Central Coast regions to 2030, with a vision to 2045", Da Nang city (old) has focused on investing, forming and developing fishery logistics service centers combined with national defense and security; shaping logistics centers associated with seaports, airports and border gates.

In Quang Nam province (old), possessing a 125km long coastline, the locality has mobilized resources and economic sectors to invest in developing seafood exploitation, marine tourism, maritime transport, and coastal industry with a multi-sector and multi-field development orientation. Quang Nam province (old) determined that the marine economy and coastal areas play an important role in the local socio-economic development strategy.
After merging with Quang Nam province, Da Nang city owns a series of modern coastal resorts, entertainment, shopping and entertainment areas, such as Furama, Sandy Beach, Vinpearl Nam Hoi An... Along with the completed infrastructure, Da Nang sea tourism is increasingly rich in types, diversified in products and services, bringing satisfaction to tourists. Many tours to explore the life, activities, culture, beliefs, customs and habits of coastal residents have been established, increasingly expanding to the southern sea of the city...
In addition to the spearhead of sea tourism, seafood exploitation and processing have also been focused on development in recent times by Quang Nam and Da Nang (old). In Quang Nam (old), the large-capacity fleet has developed strongly, especially fishing vessels with more than 1,000 horsepower invested by fishermen in Hoi An, Duy Xuyen, Thang Binh, and Nui Thanh to go offshore to fish in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa fishing grounds, enriching themselves from the sea while protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
The main fishing occupations of fishermen in Quang Nam (old) such as purse seine, drag net, and offshore squid fishing have brought great economic value to fishermen. In Da Nang, seafood processing for export brings great export turnover to the city.
Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Nam Hung said: "The new Da Nang City will promote the advantages of the marine economy and fisheries for sustainable development. Particularly in the seafood exploitation industry, the government and fishermen unanimously remove the "yellow card" for fisheries and move towards responsible fishing for sustainable development."
To promote sustainable development of the marine economy, the city focuses on building a logistics and multimodal transport center; a cargo distribution center for the Central Highlands and the whole country. Forming and developing non-tariff zones and industrial zones associated with the Lien Chieu port system and Tien Sa, Ky Ha, Tam Hiep, Tam Hoa seaports, in addition to the airport system.
At the same time, develop Chu Lai port in association with a container logistics center and a logistics center at the Nam Giang International Border Gate Economic Zone to connect goods in the Central - Southern Laos and Northeastern Thailand regions. By 2030, strive to have the logistics cluster account for about 15% of the city's GRDP.
Da Nang will convert Tien Sa port into a tourist port and marina after 2030; link coastal areas and Han River areas to form a chain of high-class, international-class destinations; plan and exploit tourism development on Son Cha island associated with protecting the ecological environment.
Da Nang City is implementing many practical activities to protect biodiversity and marine ecology, such as researching and developing mechanisms and policies to help fishermen reduce pressure on coastal seafood exploitation; rearranging boats and converting occupations that harm resources.
The relevant agencies investigate and evaluate the resources and habitats of rare aquatic species in coastal and inland waters; release additional shrimp and fish seeds as well as build artificial reef models to regenerate, protect, and restore resources, biodiversity, and marine ecology...
Many opinions say that, in the context of expanding urban space and promoting economic growth, Da Nang city needs to soon integrate the marine spatial planning of Quang Nam province (old) and Da Nang city (old) with exploitation and conservation in the direction of inter-ecological zones.
