The flood season turns the border fields into vast water surfaces, creating favorable conditions for criminals to take advantage of transporting smuggled goods. A common method is to send people to keep watch, wait for the time when the authorities are absent to carry the goods through the checkpoint, then put them on vehicles to transport deep inland for consumption.
In addition, the subjects also use high-capacity motorboats, taking advantage of the darkness to transport goods across the border river.
Cau Muong Border Guard Station discovered subjects transporting smuggled goods.
Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Chi Huu - Deputy Head of Cau Muong Border Guard Station, Dong Thap Provincial Border Guard (located in Thuong Lac Ward, Dong Thap Province) said that the unit has strengthened professional management, regularly grasped and forecasted the situation, and promptly handled arising situations.
"We maintain strict patrol and control work, advise the station command to develop plans to manage, protect the border and effectively combat smuggling," said Mr. Huu.
According to the Dong Thap Border Guard Command, the entire province is maintaining 12 fixed posts and 1 river post to prevent and stop smuggling. Since the beginning of 2025, the forces have detected and handled 185 cases/301 subjects; seized more than 2,176 m³ of sand, 5.8 tons of sugar, 10.7 kg of firecrackers and nearly 29,200 packs of smuggled cigarettes, along with many means of transport, domestic and foreign cash.
Colonel Vo Van Vu - Head of the Professional Department, Border Guard Command of Dong Thap province emphasized: "Preventing smuggling is a key task. We focus our forces on key areas, grasp the situation early, promptly detect and arrest violators, and maintain security and order in the border area."
Dong Thap Border Guard forces have increased patrols to prevent smuggling and trade fraud in the area.
Not only the border guards, the industry and trade sector of the province has also implemented many market control measures. Ms. Vo Phuong Thuy - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Dong Thap province said that the unit has issued regulations on the operation of the anti-smuggling steering committee, established inspection teams focusing on goods that are easily counterfeited such as milk, modern medicine, and processed foods. At the same time, the market management force is directed to closely monitor the area, promptly detect and strictly handle violations, and prevent the emergence of large-scale smuggling rings.
The Dong Thap Border Guard Command affirmed that in the coming time, the forces will continue to coordinate closely, increase patrols and controls, and promote legal propaganda to people and businesses to raise awareness of compliance. Border gates, wholesale markets, trade centers, and warehouses will be regularly inspected to prevent smuggled and counterfeit goods from entering the market.
The fight against smuggling in Dong Thap during the flood season is considered a key task to ensure economic security and social order. The drastic participation of border guards, police, customs and the industry and trade sector shows the determination not to let smuggling and trade fraud cause market instability and affect domestic production.
