Some places have up to 250mm of rain.
Since early this morning, Tran Cung street has been flooded. Some sections are 30-50cm deep, causing many motorbikes to stall and have to be pushed.
Data from Hanoi's drainage system as of 7am this morning shows that the central area of Hanoi has had rain from 80mm to nearly 250mm, such as Nam Tu Liem 207mm, Hoang Cau 245mm, Ha Dong 191mm...
Flooding is occurring on Vo Chi Cong, Tran Binh, Phan Van Truong, Thuy Khue, Do Duc Duc, To Hieu, Nguyen Trai, Bui Xuong Trach, Cu Loc, Vuong Thua Vu, and Ngoc Lam streets.

Hanoi has been experiencing heavy rains with thunder and howling winds since the early morning of July 10, causing many streets to be deeply flooded, with some areas flooded above motorbike exhaust pipes. Some schools in the capital have sent notices to students to stay home from school and study online before 6am.
Mr. Viet Linh, a resident of Hanoi, said that at around 5:30 a.m., on Thang Long Avenue, the water was so deep that the road surface could not be seen. Many people who went to work early had to return home because they could not pass through the deeply flooded areas.
"It was pouring rain above, and the water below was as high as a river, almost up to the wheels. Many people on motorbikes tried to go in but their engines died," Linh shared.

Many streets turned into rivers

After a heavy rain that lasted more than an hour, many streets in Hanoi turned into rivers, with some places flooded almost up to motorbike seats.
At the intersection of Pham Hung, My Dinh bus station, Duy Tan street and Ton That Thuyet street, the water was only up to an adult's ankles. However, due to the continuous heavy rain, by 6:50 a.m. the water had reached over the car's wheels.
Traffic on these streets began to become chaotic as many vehicles stalled on the road, some turned around because the road was flooded.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong (who lives near My Dinh bus station) said that she woke up at around 6am to call her child to go to school and saw it pouring rain outside with continuous thunder. When she and her child left the house, they saw that the water was almost half way up to the wheel.
"I couldn't go any further because the rain was getting heavier, the roads were flooded everywhere, and many cars tried to go but stalled. Halfway there, I received a text message from the school telling my children to study online, so we found our way back," Ms. Phuong shared.
Heavy rain also caused deep flooding on many streets such as Van Cao, Lieu Giai, Thai Ha, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Dao Tan...
At 7am, Ha Dong ward was still raining heavily with continuous thunder. To Huu, Le Van Luong, Yen Xa, Van Quan streets... were heavily flooded, the water rose above the motorbike exhaust pipes.

At 6:30 this morning, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting raised the heavy rain warning in Hanoi.
Specifically, it is forecasted that this morning in Hanoi city, there will continue to be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with general rainfall of 50-100mm, and some places with very heavy rain over 150mm (before that, general rain was 40-70mm, some places with very heavy rain over 100mm).

In an alley on Tran Thai Tong street (Cau Giay ward), rainwater flooded deeply, entering the first floors of many houses, in some places reaching up to motorbike wheels.
Many households had to put their furniture up high to avoid damage. Some people had to use sticks to feel their way through the alleys because the water was so deep they could not see the drains or potholes.
