Indian police arrest boy who threatened to bomb plane

"We strongly condemn the recent bomb threats against Indian airlines. We are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to counter such acts," Indian Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu said on October 16.

He did not name the person arrested, but said the person was a minor, meaning under 18 years old.

According to Indian media, the bomb threats were posted by an account on social media X. The post threatened two IndiGo flights (one to Muscat and one to Jeddah) and an Air India flight to New York that were armed with explosives for militants.

This week, at least eight flights operated by flagship airline IndiGo were hit with bomb threats. Three Spicejet flights, two Vistara flights and four Air India flights also received similar online messages.

Air India said its flight from New Delhi to Chicago was forced to land in Canada on October 16 after a “security threat was posted online.” Passengers were later flown to their destination by a Canadian Air Force plane.

"Air India notes that it and other local airlines have faced several threats in recent days," it said.

According to the Economic Times, the Indian government plans to increase security on international flights by deploying more aviation police, who are armed officers in plain clothes.
