After more than 4 years of simultaneously pursuing computer engineering and computer science at the University of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City, Che Quang Huy graduated with honors. Huy is also the first student to graduate from both majors at the university.

Failed first choice

Huy loves drawing and wants to study architecture, but because of his lack of points, he cannot pursue the major he loves. “Right after I got my score, I knew I would not pass, so I felt very disappointed. However, after that, I also thought a lot about studying a major that I had not thoroughly researched before. However, I still did not regret it, or think about retaking the exam, but instead tried harder for the new major,” Huy shared. Because he had not researched it before and it was a major he did not want, when studying, all the knowledge was unfamiliar to this young man. However, this did not make it difficult for Huy, he said that because it was the major he had chosen, no matter what, he would try his best to the end and be determined with it.

After 3 years of working in computer engineering, Huy wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the field of information technology, so he decided to study for a second degree in computer science. "Although studying two majors takes more time and requires me to graduate later, it has helped me a lot in the process of researching and writing my graduation thesis," Huy said. After much effort, Huy completed two university degrees after 4.5 years with a score of 8.36/10. Dr. Nguyen Luu Thuy Ngan, Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology, said that Quang Huy is the first student to graduate with two degrees from the school.

“I don’t care about being the first person to graduate with two majors or anything like that, I just study for the goal I set. But honestly, I’m a little proud of myself,” the Gen Z guy expressed.

Passion for scientific research

Because of his passion for scientific research, Huy has achieved some achievements in this field. The male student said that he has had 6 articles published at international conferences and 1 national article. Of these, Huy is the main author of 4 research topics. This achievement is a testament to Huy's tireless efforts. Sharing about his favorite topic, Huy said: "It is a topic related to the license plate recognition system of violating vehicles, published in 2022. Normally, when wanting to recognize license plates, smart cameras can only capture 1 image but sometimes it will be blurred, leading to inaccurate information recognition. Therefore, my proposal is to capture and extract information from many license plates on the road. Then use an algorithm to combine information and time to give accurate results. This topic has been put into use by my old company."

Huy decided to pursue a research career and wanted to get a master's degree, so after graduating, he did not go to work immediately but applied to work at the multimedia communication laboratory of the University of Information Technology. Currently, the male student is doing research and teaching assistant at the school. In addition to studying and researching, Huy also participates in clubs, volunteer activities, green summer... "Participating in extracurricular activities helps me a lot. Specifically, it helps me cultivate necessary soft skills such as: teamwork, communication, leadership...", Huy shared. Accompanying Huy in many projects, Mr. Pham Minh Quan, lecturer of the Faculty of Computer Engineering, University of Information Technology, commented that Huy is very diligent, intelligent and has many creative ideas during the learning and research process. “Huy is very passionate about research, so he invested a lot of time in this field from an early age. Because he studied two majors, Huy has a foundation in both fields, which better supports his research. Currently, Huy is doing very well, even though he just graduated, he has many quality scientific articles,” said Mr. Quan.
